Loial, un Ogier âgé de quatre-vingt-dix ans, apparaît dans la bibliothèque et explique son voyage depuis le stedding pour voir les bosquets et les villes du monde. Il identifie Rand comme étant 'ta'veren', expliquant que le Motif s'enroule autour de lui, et demande à rejoindre le groupe dans son voyage vers Tar Valon pour observer ses bosquets.
Chapter 41 - Old Friends and New Threats

Plays stones with Master Gill and explains the concept of ta’veren to Rand. He insists on traveling with the group to Tar Valon to see its groves, then waits in the library as the innkeeper deals with the Whitecloaks.

Loial sits on a couch with a cat on his stomach, explaining the nature of stedding and his travels. He reveals that a dying man told him of a threat to the Eye of the World, which Perrin and Egwene confirm is the Aiel story. He identifies Rand, Mat, and Perrin collectively as ta'veren and states that the stedding offers sanctuary to the Servants of the Light, but vehemently opposes Moiraine's plan to enter the Ways, stating they would all die or be swallowed by the Shadow.

Loial voyage avec le groupe, fournissant des informations sur les Vers et les cols de haute altitude. Il s'incline formellement devant l'Homme Vert, qui l'appelle « petit frère », et les deux échangent des salutations. Les autres descendent de cheval alors que l'Homme Vert leur adresse la parole. Il note que cet endroit est là où il est nécessaire.

Loial se tient près de la tombe de l'Homme Vert et chante un puissant Chant des Arbres pour préserver le sol de la Fléau. Il transporte ensuite le coffre en or contenant la Corne de Valere dans l'étude d'Agelmar et part au sud avec le groupe.
