Chapter 2 - Strangers
Lan
Lan arrives with Moiraine, wearing a cloak that shifts color and blending into the shadows. He walks silently by Moiraine's side, his cold blue gaze weighing the youths, and accompanies her away from the inn without speaking to the villagers.
Chapter 7 - Out of the Woods

Lan s'accroupit à côté d'un Trolloc mort, retirant un insigne métallique de son épaule. Il accompagne Moiraine alors qu'ils aident à détruire les Trollocs restants, foudroie du regard Rand pour son empressement et affirme que le père de Rand ne vaut peut-être pas la peine d'être sauvé comparé à l'état de Moiraine.
Chapter 8 - A Place of Safety

Lan est assis tranquillement près du lit, commentant l'épée de Rand et expliquant la nature des Myrddraal et des Demi-hommes. Il révèle que les Trollocs n'ont attaqué que deux fermes et la forge, indiquant que l'attaque était intentionnelle et ciblait des jeunes hommes spécifiques plutôt que tout le village.
Chapter 9 - Tellings of the Wheel

Lan entre dans la pièce pour convoquer Rand en urgence, l'avertissant des ennuis qui se profilent dehors. Il attend avec impatience dans le couloir, puis devant la porte de l'auberge, avant de finir par tirer Rand et Mat vers la cour des écuries pour quitter l'auberge.
Chapter 10 - Leavetaking

Lan inspecte les chevaux et avertit sévèrement les jeunes qu'ils doivent être prêts à utiliser n'importe quelle arme pour survivre. Il conduit le groupe hors de la cour de l'écurie, les arrête pour éviter une patrouille, identifie un Draghkar dans le ciel et leur ordonne de prendre la Route du Nord.
Chapter 11 - The Road to Taren Ferry

Lan leads the group at the head of the line, refusing to stop at Watch Hill. He identifies the Draghkar and commands the group to continue fleeing, later bargaining with Master Hightower for passage.
Chapter 12 - Across the Taren

Lan conduit le groupe à pied et les guide à travers le brouillard jusqu'à l'embarcadère du ferry, où il s'assure que la compagnie expose ses armes devant le maître Hightower. Il négocie la traversée, paie le passeur et ses aides, et observe la destruction du ferry avant de conduire le groupe vers leur lieu de repos dans les bois.
Chapter 13 - Choices

Lan scours the path ahead, teaches the boys sword and axe fighting, and insists on secrecy and slow travel. He exchanges aliases with Moiraine, enters Baerlon disguised in ordinary clothes, and is greeted by the innkeeper Fitch as Master Andra.
Chapter 14 - The Stag and Lion

Lan scouts the inn's common room to gather intelligence, finding reports of Logain's victory and Whitecloak agitation, and later checks the dining room door to ensure it is safe from eavesdroppers. He sternly reprimands Mat and the others in the bathhouse for nearly exposing their connection to Trollocs, warning them that the Children of the Light would view such talk as an admission of being Darkfriends.
Chapter 16 - The Wisdom

Lan offre du vin à Nynaeve, monte la garde dans le couloir pendant que Moiraine l'interroge à l'intérieur, et fait signe silencieusement aux garçons de quitter la pièce.
Chapter 17 - Watchers and Hunters

Lan guards the group and leads the escape. He confronts the Watchman and Whitecloaks at the gate, then rides with the party out of the city.
Chapter 18 - The Caemlyn Road

Lan éclaire la voie, confirme l'effectif de l'armée qui les poursuit et charge un Myrddraal en combat singulier tandis que son cheval Mandarb combat à ses côtés. Après la bataille, il argue avec Moiraine au sujet de sa force et conduit le groupe vers Shadar Logoth pour échapper aux poursuivants.
Chapter 19 - Shadow’s Waiting

Lan porte Moiraine jusqu'à la maison sûre, effectue une reconnaissance à l'extérieur et revient pour révéler que les Trollocs et les Myrddraal poussent une horde massive vers Shadar Logoth, contraignant le groupe à abandonner leur protection et à traverser la rivière immédiatement.
Chapter 21 - Listen to the Wind

Lan dismounts to inspect the ground, reporting to Moiraine that the Trollocs and Halfmen have departed. He bars Nynaeve from approaching Moiraine when she arrives, then prepares the horses for departure while remaining largely silent about the discussion regarding the Pattern and Nynaeve's abilities.
Chapter 28 - Footprints in Air

Lan scouts the path and rides with the group, displaying a grim demeanor upon smelling the lingering presence of a Halfman in Whitebridge. He interrogates a militiaman in the inn with a stern glare, forcing the man to withdraw, and informs Nynaeve and Moiraine about the recent Myrddraal visit and the necessity of their caution.
Chapter 33 - The Dark Waits

Lan apparaît dans le cauchemar fébrile de Rand, le visage couvert de sang, et met en question la légitimité de Rand à brandir son épée.
Chapter 37 - The Long Chase

Lan guide le groupe jusqu'au camp des Whitecloak et explique la situation à Nynaeve. Il s'assure que les chevaux sont en sécurité, puis disparaît dans l'obscurité.
Chapter 38 - Rescue

Lan surprend les gardes des prisonniers et Byar, les neutralisant sans les tuer, et conduit Perrin et Egwene hors du camp sous l'orage de foudre de Moiraine. Il retrouve le groupe, affronte Nynaeve au sujet de son serment, et discute avec Perrin de la menace du Dark One concernant la sécurité de Rand et Mat.
Chapter 41 - Old Friends and New Threats

Lan est affalé dans l'encadrement de la porte de l'écurie, puis intercepte instantanément la tentative de Mat de frapper Moiraine avec le poignard, en immobilisant le poignet de Mat. Il informe le groupe que les Fades s'assemblent à l'extérieur de Caemlyn et entreront probablement dans la ville sous peu.
Chapter 42 - Remembrance of Dreams

Lan se tient derrière Moiraine et Mat à leur arrivée, observant le groupe en silence. Après que Moiraine a confié à Loial la tâche de trouver la Porte des Voies, Lan disparaît de la pièce pour s'assurer qu'ils ne soient pas pris au dépourvu.
Chapter 43 - Decisions and Apparitions

Lan joins the planning session long after dark, offering comments in his iron-cored drawl. He later opens the door for Master Gill and watches the dagger under Mat's pillow.
Chapter 44 - The Dark Along the Ways

Lan brings up the rear as they enter the cellar, climbs back up to pull the cellar doors shut, and leads Mandarb through the Waygate. He rides on the side of the Ogier through the dark, and dismounts midday to distribute food while keeping time.
Chapter 45 - What Follows in Shadow
Lan
Lan rides ahead, approaching the Guiding where runes are discovered. He leaps his horse Mandarb through the gate first, saving the group by forcing open the stone wedges of the door with his shoulder.
Chapter 46 - Fal Dara
Lan — aliases: Dai Shan (Dai Shan), Warder (Gardien)
Lan chevauche en tête, guidant le groupe vers Fal Dara et imposant la coutume locale de découvrir le visage. Il rencontre le seigneur Agelmar, exprimant son désespoir face à la destruction de Malkier tout en restant ferme dans son devoir. Il reste aux côtés de Moiraine alors qu'elle affronte Fain.
Chapter 47 - More Tales of the Wheel
Lan / Lan Mandragoran — aliases: Dai Shan (Dai Shan), Warder (Gardien)
Lan se tient silencieusement aux talons de Moiraine alors qu'elle revient des cellules. Il est le sujet de l'histoire de Lord Agelmar concernant la chute de Malkier et son propre destin en tant que Roi sans Couronne, bien qu'il nie ses titres.
Chapter 48 - The Blight
Lan — aliases: Warder (Gardien), Dai Shan (Dai Shan)
Lan chevauche Mandarb à la tête du groupe, imposant un rythme soutenu et les mettant en garde contre les dangers de la Peste. Il aide à seller les chevaux au campement, puis assure la garde toute la nuit, partageant un échange silencieux et personnel avec Nynaeve au sujet de sa royauté et de son avenir.
Chapter 49 - The Dark One Stirs

Lan leads the group out of the camp and into the Blight, wearing steel-backed gauntlets. A massive creature leaps at the group, but Mat’s arrow pierces its eye, causing it to fall short. He repeatedly charges into the trees to cut down attackers, sustaining wounds that Moiraine heals, and urges the group to ride furiously to escape the pursuing Worms.
Chapter 50 - Meetings at the Eye

Lan follows Moiraine into the cavern and draws his sword when the Forsaken appear. He hesitates before charging, allowing Aginor to strike him with a dismissive gesture, sending him flying back into the archway unconscious and disarmed.
Chapter 52 - There Is Neither Beginning Nor End

Lan leads his friends into the clearing, supporting Moiraine. He strikes a cuendillar fragment with a knife to prove its indestructibility, and listens to Moiraine's identification of the treasures. He greets Rand with dry approval of his survival and sword.
Chapter 53 - The Wheel Turns
Lan — aliases: the Warder (le Gardien)
A litter fashioned by Lan is slung between horses to carry Moiraine. Lan watches Rand train with the sword and delivers a flat, cryptic farewell to the boy before leaving him alone on the balcony.
