Chapter 31 - The Woman of Tanchico

Thom Merrilin recites a story while drunk, lamenting his past failures and his need to hide from Elaida. He appears to be in a stupor until he briefly leaves the table, after which he returns fully sober and ready to travel, agreeing to accompany Mat to Caemlyn.
Chapter 32 - The First Ship

Thom Merrilin monte à bord du Gull Gris avec Mat, observant l'arrangement de la cabine par le capitaine, puis aidant Mat à repousser l'attaque de l'assassin nocturne. Il remarque la chance étrange et le papier, déclarant son ignorance concernant le Haut Seigneur Samon, avant de se résoudre à dormir à ses côtés.
Chapter 40 - A Hero in the Night

Thom accompagne Mat à Aringill, commente sur la souffrance des réfugiés et tente de négocier un hébergement auprès des aubergistes. Il observe l'arrivée d'Aludra, l'identifie comme une Illuminatrice et conseille à Mat de fuir rapidement l'écurie après leur rencontre avec ses agents.
Chapter 44 - Hunted

Thom tunes his harp and warns Mat about the dangers of the fireworks he is examining. He kills one of the assassins with a knife when they attack Mat's camp. He kicks back the cloak of the dead woman leader to retrieve his knife and advises Mat to saddle their horses so they can move on.
Chapter 45 - Caemlyn

Thom rides with Mat into Caemlyn, advises him to find food first, and later waits in the inn's library with Basel Gill playing a stones board game. He reacts with suspicion to Mat's fireworks and frustration at Mat's refusal to use the letter for safe passage, eventually urging Mat to consider the danger of his plan.
Chapter 47 - To Race the Shadow
Thom — aliases: gleeman (ménestrel)
Thom sits with Gill in the inn, listens to Mat's report of the plot, reveals that his romantic feelings for Morgase have faded over time, and agrees to leave for Tear to protect Egwene and the others.
Chapter 49 - A Storm in Tear
Thom — aliases: gleeman (ménestrel)
Thom plays stones with Mat, exposes Comar's weighted dice by revealing the hidden marked dice, and pulls Mat away from the scene before the Defenders arrive. He joins Mat in the random search of inns despite his worsening cough.
Chapter 52 - In Search of a Remedy
Thom
Thom souffre d'une toux sévère et sifflante, et il insiste sur le fait qu'il n'a pas besoin de médicaments avant d'être soigné de force par Mère Guenna. Il proteste vigoureusement lorsque Mat le laisse derrière lui pour poursuivre sa mission de sauvetage, bien qu'il soit maintenu par la main de Guenna.
