Il révèle qu'il prend des notes sur ses amis, y compris Rand, et précise qu'il a quitté le stedding sans la permission des Anciens car il souhaitait voir les bosquets plantés par les Ogier.

Loial chevauche un cheval qui lui semble trop petit, avec ses longues jambes qui pendent, aide à attraper des poissons et accepte son rôle dans l'exécution des corvées de Moiraine comme une fatalité. Il chevauche en silence concernant les secrets des Aes Sedai et aide à nettoyer les poissons.

Loial se faufile sous les portes et parle avec enthousiasme de l'histoire des Ogier pendant que Simion le regarde bouche bée. Il s'assoit avec Simion dans leur chambre, expliquant la paix du stedding, tandis que Perrin s'occupe des questions concernant Rand et Noam.

Loial emerges from his stifling cabin only after the others have disembarked, rushing onto the dock while trying to don his coat and saddlebags, and mutely mouthing a warning about angering Aes Sedai to Perrin.
