Chapter 1 - The Flame of Tar Valon
Lan / Lan Mandragoran — aliases: Warder (Gardien), Lord of the Seven Towers, Lord of the Lakes, uncrowned King of Malkier
Lan trains Rand, explaining the history of Aes Sedai-made weapons and his heritage as the uncrowned King of Malkier. He notes Rand's hesitation to leave and observes the approaching Aes Sedai procession, warning Rand before disappearing into the tower.
Chapter 6 - Dark Prophecy

Lan trouve Rand dans le couloir et l'informe que Moiraine l'a exempté de l'ordre de fermeture, lui permettant de quitter Fal Dara immédiatement. Il commente l'attention que Rand reçoit de la part des femmes du château.
Chapter 7 - Blood Calls Blood
Lan — aliases: Warder (Gardien)
Lan convoque Rand pour une audience auprès de la Chaise d'Amyrlin, l'habille de soie et d'un manteau formel, et lui explique le protocole approprié. Il lui remet une épingle de Manetheren pour l'aider à préserver sa fierté et paraître respectable.
Chapter 8 - The Dragon Reborn

Lan guides Rand through the women's apartments, teaching him the proper stance and protocol for entering the Amyrlin's presence. Later, he meets Nynaeve in a corridor, giving her a heavy gold signet ring of the Malkieri kings and swearing to aid her, before departing with the Amyrlin's party.

Moiraine reflects that Nynaeve has put cracks in Lan's walls and laced bridal flowers in his hair. Lan confronts Moiraine about transferring his bond, expressing deep anger and betrayal before masking his emotions. He later stabs the Draghkar alongside Jaem to save Moiraine from being drained.
Chapter 49 - What Was Meant to Be

Lan sits under a tree sharpening his belt knife and gives Rand a careful look and a nod upon his arrival at the fire.
