Chapter 2 - Saidin
Rand — aliases: the Dragon Reborn, Lord Dragon
Rand emerges from Moiraine’s hut to accept the devotion of his Shienaran followers before disappearing into the trees. He later retreats to a secluded vale where he confesses his fear of Saidin’s taint and his duty to the Last Battle, accidentally unleashing a massive earth tremor through his power before brooding alone.
Chapter 3 - News from the Plain
Rand
Rand is observed as a dim shape slipping between the trees toward his hut after the events of the day. He is described as refusing to eat dinner due to the way others look at him.
Chapter 5 - Nightmares Walking
Rand — aliases: the Dragon Reborn, sheepherder
Rand struggles to channel Saidin during the battle, setting trees on fire instead of stopping the attack, and later suffers from a reopened wound at Falme which Moiraine heals, leading him to resolve to fight despite his fears.
Chapter 9 - Wolf Dreams
Rand
Rand hides under trees in the night, watching a waist-high dog approach. He channels Saidin to destroy the dog, struggles with the taint and nausea, and then continues his eastward journey toward Tear while ignoring the howls of other dogs.
Chapter 22 - The Price of the Ring
Rand — aliases: husband, Dragon Reborn
Rand appears in Egwene's visions as her husband, suffering from headaches and strange phenomena, and later trapped under rubble in a ruined palace, begging her to kill him to prevent him from being turned to the Shadow. In the Traitor's Court vision, he stands chained and swaying, waiting to be gentled.
Chapter 27 - Tel’aran’rhiod
Rand / Rand al'Thor — aliases: Father of Lies
In Tel'aran'rhiod, Rand sits by a magical fire in a wood, smoking a pipe. He attacks Egwene with a sword of flame when he believes she is sent by his enemies, forcing her to flee.
Chapter 32 - The First Ship
Rand
Rand camps alone in the mountains, playing 'Rose of the Morning' on his flute while roasting a rabbit. He struggles with the taint of Saidin and the taunting faces in his dreams, specifically fearing for his friends but convincing himself that Min would never truly hurt him.
Chapter 36 - Daughter of the Night
Rand — aliases: Dragon Reborn
Rand wakes exhausted in the hills, accidentally kills a merchant and her guards in a trance, and channels to make the corpses kneel. He feels the pull of Callandor and rides toward Tear, determined to end his torment.
Chapter 55 - What Is Written in Prophecy
Rand / Lews Therin / Kinslayer / Rand al'Thor — aliases: the Dragon Reborn, the Breaker of the World, the hunter
Rand enters the Heart of the Stone and confronts Be’lal and Ba’zalmon, fighting with Callandor and saidin. He eventually kills Ba’zalmon, stabilizes reality, and proclaims himself the Dragon Reborn as the veiled men and defenders kneel to him.
Chapter 56 - People of the Dragon
Rand / Rand al'Thor — aliases: the Dragon Reborn, He Who Comes With the Dawn, the Lord Dragon
Rand is briefly seen by Mat striding through a hall with Callandor, surrounded by Aiel and Defenders, confirming his presence in the Stone.
