Chapter 35 - The Falcon

Summary

Perrin Aybara, Moiraine Damodred, Lan Mandragoran, and Loial flee Remen under the cover of darkness after Perrin’s unauthorized release of an Aiel prisoner, securing passage on the merchant ship Snow Goose with the help of Lan’s gold. As they prepare to depart, a young woman named Zarine Bashere leaps aboard, revealing herself to be a Hunter of the Horn seeking the Horn of Valere, which she believes is hidden in the Mountains of Mist. She introduces herself first as Mandarb, then as Faile, and explains to a wary Perrin that she has been following their unusual trail, having deduced their identities from a distance in the inn. Despite her insistence on joining them to follow the 'strange trail,' Perrin remains skeptical and suspicious of her motives, ordering her to the deck while he retreats below to sleep, haunted by Min’s earlier visions.

  • Perrin / Perrin Aybara (farmboy, countryman) — Perrin rushes to gather his gear and find Loial before fleeing Remen, later calming the horses for boarding and confronting Zarine Bashere on the deck of the Snow Goose, where he questions her motives and dismisses her theories about the Horn of Valere before going below to sleep.

  • Jaim Adarra (captain) — Captain Jaim Adarra of the Snow Goose accepts gold and silver for passage, negotiates with Zarine Bashere for her ticket, and oversees the departure of the ship from the wharf.
