Chapter 19 - Awakening

Summary

Mat Cauthon awakens in a luxurious room in Tar Valon, confused by fragmented memories of dreams involving an ancient battle and waking thoughts of the dagger and Shadar Logoth. He finds a large meal prepared for him, which he devours while deducing his location and reflecting on the dangers of the Aes Sedai and the current state of his friends. After realizing the food is gone, he recalls blowing the Horn of Valere and worries about the implications for his safety. As he steadies himself against the knock at the door, he prepares to face whatever or whoever is outside.

• Mat / Cauthon / Mat Cauthon — Mat wakes in a lavish room with a plaster ceiling, his mind clouded by dreams of Manetheren and memories of Shadar Logoth. He examines his emaciated reflection, eats a massive meal of beef, vegetables, and cheese, and reasons his way through his situation, concluding he is in the White Tower and must find Egwene and Nynaeve. After finishing all the food, he remembers blowing the Horn of Valere and braces for the person knocking at his door.
