Chapter 8 - The Dragon Reborn

Summary

Rand al'Thor is summoned before the Amyrlin Seat, Moiraine, and Verin Sedai, where the Amyrlin reveals that Rand is the Dragon Reborn and confirms his ability to channel; Rand accepts the identity with stoic defiance before leaving to join Ingtar Gladion’s quest for the Horn of Valere. Meanwhile, Nynaeve al'Meara senses an unnatural storm and searches for Rand, encountering Moiraine who confirms the group's imminent departure and Nynaeve's own fate to go to Tar Valon, while Nynaeve receives a royal signet ring from Lan Mandragoran. Egwene al'Vere packs her belongings and has a poignant farewell with Rand in the women's apartments, where he warns her against joining the Red Ajah before departing.

Rand / Rand al'Thor (Lord, Dragon Reborn, shepherd, son of Tam al'Thor) — Rand is summoned to the Amyrlin Seat’s chambers where he is formally identified as the Dragon Reborn and told he can channel. Nynaeve (Wisdom) — Nynaeve senses an impossible storm and searches frantically for Rand through the keep. Nisura (Lady Amalisa's attendant) — Nisura confronts Rand at the entrance to the women's apartments and later informs Egwene of the uproar caused by his attempt to enter. She directs Egwene to handle him.
Agelmar (Lord Agelmar) — Lord Agelmar stands with Kajin at the women's apartments entrance, enforcing the custom that men cannot enter and preventing Rand from going inside to see Egwene. He pats Rand on the shoulder and leaves them in Egwene's care.
Kajin (Lord Kajin) — Kajin stands with Agelmar, insisting that Rand abide by the women's customs and wait for a message to be delivered. He speaks to Rand about the Horn of Valere and the Wheel, then spots Egwene arriving.
