Chapter 4 - Summoned

Summary

Moiraine prepares for an audience with the Amyrlin Seat by donning her shawl and discussing the rising tide of false Dragons and political unrest with Anaiya and Liandrin as they walk through the women's apartments. Upon entering the audience chamber, she observes other Aes Sedai, including Verin and Serafelle, before being summoned by Leane to meet the Amyrlin privately. During the meeting, the Amyrlin reveals her distress over Hall of the Tower politics, specifically Green and Red Ajah attempts to punish Moiraine for her protection of ta'veren and the presence of Elaida in Tar Valon. Once Leane departs, the Amyrlin secures their conversation with a silence weave and confesses to Moiraine her fear that they are out of control, revealing a secret plan that would result in their death if discovered by the other sisters.

Characters

• Moiraine / Moiraine Sedai (Daughter) — Moiraine adjusts her shawl and reflects on her status as an Aes Sedai before walking with Anaiya and Liandrin to the Amyrlin's presence. She confronts the Amyrlin about the political threats against her from the Greens and Reds, then receives a private audience where the Amyrlin reveals a secret, dangerous plan.
• Siuan / Siuan Sanche (Amyrlin, Amyrlin Seat, Mother) — The Amyrlin Seat commands Moiraine's attendance and discusses the political instability, false Dragons, and the Hall's attempts to sanction Moiraine. She later dismisses Leane to speak privately with Moiraine, revealing a secret plan and expressing her dread of the world's crumbling order.
• Anaiya — Liandrin accompanies Moiraine to the Amyrlin's chambers, commenting on the state of the world and the false Dragons while maintaining her characteristic petulance. Liandrin accepts Lady Amalisa's invitation to join her and her ladies in her private garden.
• Liandrin (Sister) — Liandrin joins the group with a cold demeanor, displaying hostility toward Moiraine's wards and irritation at the idle talk, eventually forcing the group to proceed to the Amyrlin with aggressive haste.
• Amalisa (Lady Amalisa) — Lady Amalisa curtsies to the Aes Sedai, interacts warmly with Anaiya and Moiraine, and watches them depart for the audience.
• Verin / Verin Mathwin — Verin sits on the floor beneath an arrowslit, sketching flowers and making notes in a book, largely ignoring the arrival of the others as she focuses on her study.
• Serafelle — Serafelle sits beside Verin, intently reading an old, tattered book and handling its pages with care, showing no reaction to Moiraine's entrance.
• Carlinya — Carlinya, a woman of the Green Ajah, stands and stares at Moiraine with a cold, expressionless manner.
• Alanna / Alanna Mosvani (Sister) — Alanna sharply snugs her shawl around herself upon Moiraine's entrance, reacting with visible discomfort or coldness toward the Blues' presence.
