Chapter 7 - Blood Calls Blood

Summary

Moiraine, Siuan, and Verin recover from healing Mat and analyze a dark prophecy found by Fain that hints at the return of Lanfear and the Dragon Reborn. Meanwhile, Perrin visits Mat in the infirmary, encounters the suspicious Leane who notes his unusual golden eyes, and then argues with Rand about their separation. Lan Mandragoran summons Rand for an audience with the Amyrlin Seat, dressing him in formal attire and giving him a Manetheren pin to help him navigate the political danger.

Characters

• Moiraine (Daughter) — Moiraine helps heal Mat Cauthon and discusses the implications of the dagger's taint and the stolen Horn with Siuan and Verin. She reacts with internal shock and channels the One Power to mute the Amyrlin’s aura after Verin deduces Rand is the Dragon Reborn, then demands Verin explain her findings.
• Siuan (Amyrlin Seat, Mother) — Siuan oversees the Healing of Mat and listens to Verin read the dark prophecy found in the dungeon. She becomes increasingly agitated by the mentions of Lanfear and the Great Lord, ultimately ordering Verin to leave before she loses her temper.
• Verin (Daughter) — Verin provides notes on the dungeon graffiti, reading a dark prophecy that mentions Lanfear and the man who channels. She deduces that the man who channels is likely the Dragon Reborn and channels the Power to mute Siuan’s aura to prove her point, then explains her long-term observations to the Amyrlin.
• Perrin (blacksmith) — Perrin visits Mat in the infirmary and is stopped by Leane, who examines his eyes and notes their unusual golden color. He later confronts Rand about their separation, expressing his confusion and hurt before leaving. Lan then dresses Rand in formal attire and instructs him on protocol for the audience with the Amyrlin Seat.
• Leane (Aes Sedai) — Leane directs the litter bearers carrying Mat and later guards the infirmary. She stops Perrin from disturbing his patient, examines his eyes, and dismisses his concerns about Mat's recovery with a lie or omission.
• Rand (sheepherder) — Rand wakes unable to sleep and argues with Perrin about his departure from Fal Dara. He is summoned by the Amyrlin Seat and dressed in formal attire by Lan, who gives him a Manetheren pin to aid his appearance before the Amyrlin.
• Lan (Warder) — Lan summons Rand for an audience with the Amyrlin Seat, dresses him in silk and a formal coat, and instructs him on proper protocol. He gives Rand a pin from Manetheren to help him maintain his pride and appear respectable.
• Mat (Cauthon) — Mat lies unconscious in the infirmary, recovering from the effects of the Shadar Logoth dagger. He briefly wakes to acknowledge Perrin before falling back into a deep sleep.
• Egwene — Egwene is described as sleeping in her room, recovering from her head injury, though she does not physically appear in the scenes.
