Chapter 1 - The Flame of Tar Valon

Rand practices sword forms with Lan, struggling to maintain the void in his mind. He accidentally channels the One Power when the wind solidifies, resulting in him being struck by Lan's practice sword and sustaining minor cuts. Terrified by the display of the One Power and the approaching Aes Sedai, he panics and runs away.
Chapter 2 - The Welcome

Rand attempts to evade the Amyrlin Seat by fleeing the keep, but is forced to change into new clothes provided by Lady Amalisa’s maids after Elansu Shatayan confiscates his old garments. He then discovers that Lord Agelmar has sealed the gates and stables, preventing him from escaping on horseback, and rushes to find his friends now that the welcome is complete.
Chapter 3 - Friends and Enemies

Rand tries to leave Fal Dara but finds the gates sealed, feeling a sense of being watched. He finds Loial, Mat, and Perrin, then angrily drives them away to protect them from his perceived danger. Egwene finds him, and after a visit to the dungeon where Fain warns him, she leads him to hide in the women's apartments.
Chapter 6 - Dark Prophecy

Rand wakes from a nightmare and hides in Egwene's room, then rushes to the dungeon upon hearing alarms, where he finds Egwene and Mat unconscious and Fain escaped. After a confrontation with Liandrin is broken up by Moiraine, he learns of the Horn's theft from Ingtar and is told by Lan that he may leave the keep.
Chapter 8 - The Dragon Reborn

Rand is summoned to the Amyrlin Seat’s chambers where he is formally identified as the Dragon Reborn and told he can channel. He maintains his composure through the revelation, refuses to be used, and agrees to ride with Ingtar to find the Horn of Valere. Later, he has a final, emotional farewell with Egwene in the women's apartments before walking away.
Chapter 9 - Leavetakings

Rand ties his saddlebags and mounts his horse, attempting to apologize to Mat and Perrin who ride past without stopping. He listens to Lan's instruction on 'Sheathing the Sword' and later speaks with the sniffer Hurin, who identifies a dark trail leading south, prompting Rand to ride after Ingtar.
Chapter 10 - The Hunt Begins

He enters a house in the abandoned village and experiences a repeated, paralyzing vision of the villagers' deaths, during which he unconsciously channels the One Power to burn the flies. He then discovers the dead Myrddraal and leaves the village quickly.
Chapter 11 - Glimmers of the Pattern

Rand receives the bundle from Ingtar and secretly opens it to find the banner of the Dragon. He confesses his ability to channel to Mat and Perrin, causing Mat to flee and Perrin to urge him to leave, before finally stowing the banner in his saddlebag.
Chapter 13 - From Stone to Stone

Rand wakes in the desolate hollow, attempts to channel through the stone cylinder, but recoils from the tainted feel of saidin. He decides to pursue the Darkfriends instead of trying to use the Power again, promising to find another way to return, and rides south with his companions.
Chapter 14 - Wolfbrother

Rand is discussed by the characters as having vanished without a trace along with Hurin and Loial, but he does not appear on-screen in this chapter.
Chapter 15 - Kinslayer

Rand rides with Loial and Hurin through the desolate landscape, attempting to lead them while hiding his own fears. During his watch, he confronts a spectral Ba'alzamon, refusing the Dark One's temptations of power and service. He emerges from the encounter unharmed but finds a heron branded on his palm.
Chapter 16 - In the Mirror of Darkness

Rand rides with Loial and Hurin, confronting a spectral Ba'alzamon earlier and now dealing with the disorienting nature of the stone. He ultimately decides to ride to Cairhien with Selene to evade the immediate threat, locking the dangerous dagger inside the chest to shield them from its influence.
Chapter 20 - Saidin

Rand leads his companions through the hills of Cairhien, refusing Selene's demand to see the Horn of Valere. He becomes entranced by a crystal sphere in an excavation, fighting a trance-like pull from saidin before breaking it by reciting the Karaethon Cycle. At the inn in Tremonsien, he declines Selene's offer to flee with the Horn, insisting it belongs to no one person.

Rand and his companions enter the inn and are questioned by Captain Caldevwin regarding strangers and a statue. He plays the flute for the inn's patrons after Mistress Madwen notices a flute case in Hurin's bundle and initially makes the request to him. After Selene departs, he asks Hurin why Captain Caldevwin was suspicious, accepts an escort from Officer Tavolin and prepares to ride to Cairhien, noting the strange turn of events.
Chapter 25 - Cairhien

Chapter 26 - Discord

Chapter 33 - A Message from the Dark

Rides into the stedding feeling a chill and refreshment, then seeks the void as Aiel approach. He argues with Mat and Perrin about being an Aiel while Loial explains Ogier marriage customs, then remains to talk with his friends while Verin is led to the Elders.
Chapter 36 - Among the Elders

Rand defends Loial’s place in the group before the Elders, feeling the weight of the pattern's weaving. He feels the presence of saidin outside the stedding. At the Waygate, he shouts for Verin to close it upon sensing the Machin Shin. He internally struggles with his fear of channeling versus the necessity of finding a Portal Stone. He asserts he can find the Stone and decides to use it to reach Toman Head quickly.
Chapter 37 - What Might Be

Shivering in the rain, Rand asks Verin to lighten the storm but suppresses his urge to channel himself. He argues with Ingtar and his friends, demanding to ride to Falme to save Emond's Field from Fain, though they advise patience. Later, he sleeps fitfully and confronts a vision of Ba'alzamon, channeling the One Power to attack the entity before collapsing and waking to find the chair scorched.
Chapter 44 - Five Will Ride Forth

Chapter 45 - Blademaster
Rand
Rand infiltrates Falme with his friends, spots a collared Egwene across the street, retrieves the Horn and dagger, and duels High Lord Turak to a death.
Chapter 46 - To Come Out of the Shadow
Rand
Rand hides in an alley with Ingtar, learns of Ingtar's past as a Darkfriend, and is urged by Ingtar to escape with the Horn; Rand blesses Ingtar and flees with Hurin.
Chapter 47 - The Grave Is No Bar to My Call

Rand rides to the hills above Falme, learns of Ingtar's sacrifice, and watches Mat sound the Horn to summon Heroes. He confronts Ba'alzamon in the mists, channeling the Power while maintaining the void, and finally kills the entity by piercing its heart with his heron-mark sword after realizing he must die to win.
Chapter 48 - First Claiming

Rand lies unconscious and ice-cold under an oak tree with a melted sword hilt fused to his hand. He stirs and murmurs briefly when Lanfear touches his forehead, but remains unresponsive to Min's care and Egwene's presence.
Chapter 49 - What Was Meant to Be
Rand — aliases: the Dragon, Lord Dragon
Rand awakens in a forest camp five days after the Battle of Falme, discovering a heron brand on both palms. He learns of his friends' departure and hears from Moiraine about the public battle with Ba'alzamon and the breaking of the Seals. After rejecting his identity initially, he accepts his duty as the Dragon Reborn when Uno and Masema pledge their lives to him.
