Chapter 49 - What Was Meant to Be
Summary
Rand al'Thor awakens in a forest camp five days east of Falme, discovering he has slept for days and learning that his friends have departed for Tar Valon with the Horn of Valere. Min Farshaw and Moiraine al'Verinchael inform him of the destruction of his heron-mark sword, the breaking of seals on the Dark One's prison, and the public spectacle of his battle with Ba'alzamon. Despite Rand's initial refusal to embrace his identity, the Shienaran soldiers, including Uno and Masema, pledge their allegiance to him as the Dragon Reborn, prompting Moiraine to urge him to accept his role in the coming Last Battle.
