Lan chega com Moiraine, vestindo uma capa que muda de cor e se funde às sombras. Ele caminha em silêncio ao lado de Moiraine, seu olhar azul e frio avaliando os jovens, e a acompanha para longe da estalagem sem falar com os aldeões.
Chapter 7 - Out of the Woods

Lan se agacha ao lado de um Trolloc morto, removendo uma insígnia metálica de seu ombro. Ele acompanha Moiraine enquanto ajudam a destruir os Trollocs restantes, lança olhares furiosos para Rand por sua pressa e afirma que o pai de Rand pode não valer a pena ser salvo em comparação com a condição de Moiraine.
Chapter 8 - A Place of Safety

Lan lidera o grupo à frente da fila, recusando-se a parar em Watch Hill. Ele identifica o Draghkar e ordena que o grupo continue fugindo, mais tarde negociando com o Mestre Hightower por passagem.
Chapter 12 - Across the Taren

Lan leads the group off their horses and guides them through the fog to the ferry landing, where he ensures the party displays their weapons to Master Hightower. He negotiates the crossing, pays the ferryman and his helpers, and watches as the ferry is destroyed before leading the group to their resting place in the woods.
Chapter 13 - Choices

Lan examina o caminho à frente, ensina aos rapazes a lutar com espada e machado e insiste no sigilo e em viagens lentas. Ele troca de alias com Moiraine, entra em Baerlon disfarçado de roupas comuns e é recebido pelo estalajadeiro Fitch como Mestre Andra.
Chapter 14 - The Stag and Lion

Lan explora a sala comum da estalagem para reunir informações, encontrando relatos da vitória de Logain e da agitação dos Capas Brancas, e mais tarde verifica a porta da sala de jantar para garantir que está segura contra espiões. Lan dismounts to inspect the ground, reporting to Moiraine that the Trollocs and Halfmen have departed. He bars Nynaeve from approaching Moiraine when she arrives, then prepares the horses for departure while remaining largely silent about the discussion regarding the Pattern and Nynaeve's abilities.
Chapter 28 - Footprints in Air

Lan scouts the path and rides with the group, displaying a grim demeanor upon smelling the lingering presence of a Halfman in Whitebridge. He interrogates a militiaman in the inn with a stern glare, forcing the man to withdraw, and informs Nynaeve and Moiraine about the recent Myrddraal visit and the necessity of their caution.
Chapter 33 - The Dark Waits

Lan appears in Rand's fever dream with a blood-covered face, questioning Rand's worthiness of his sword.
Chapter 37 - The Long Chase

Chapter 38 - Rescue

Lan ambushes the prisoners' guards and Byar, silencing them without killing them, and leads Perrin and Egwene out of the camp under Moiraine's lightning storm. Lan joins the planning session long after dark, offering comments in his iron-cored drawl. He later opens the door for Master Gill and watches the dagger under Mat's pillow.
Chapter 44 - The Dark Along the Ways

Lan brings up the rear as they enter the cellar, climbs back up to pull the cellar doors shut, and leads Mandarb through the Waygate. He rides on the side of the Ogier through the dark, and dismounts midday to distribute food while keeping time.

Lan rides ahead, approaching the Guiding where runes are discovered. He leaps his horse Mandarb through the gate first, saving the group by forcing open the stone wedges of the door with his shoulder.
Chapter 46 - Fal Dara
Lan — aliases: Dai Shan, Warder (Guarda)
Lan rides ahead, leading the group into Fal Dara and enforcing the local custom of exposing faces. He meets with Lord Agelmar, expressing his despair over the destruction of Malkier but remaining steadfast in his duty. He stands by Moiraine as she confronts Fain.
Chapter 47 - More Tales of the Wheel

Lan stands silently at Moiraine's heels as she returns from the cells. He is the subject of Lord Agelmar's story regarding the fall of Malkier and his own destiny as the Uncrowned King, though he denies his titles.

Lan rides Mandarb at the head of the group, setting a hard pace and warning them of the Blight's dangers. He helps saddle the horses at the camp and later stands guard through the night, sharing a quiet, personal exchange with Nynaeve about his kingship and her future.

Lan guia o grupo para fora do acampamento e para dentro da Praga, usando manoplas reforçadas de aço. Lan follows Moiraine into the cavern and draws his sword when the Forsaken appear. He hesitates before charging, allowing Aginor to strike him with a dismissive gesture, sending him flying back into the archway unconscious and disarmed.
Chapter 52 - There Is Neither Beginning Nor End

Lan leads his friends into the clearing, supporting Moiraine. He strikes a cuendillar fragment with a knife to prove its indestructibility, and listens to Moiraine's identification of the treasures. He greets Rand with dry approval of his survival and sword.
Chapter 53 - The Wheel Turns

A litter fashioned by Lan is slung between horses to carry Moiraine. Lan watches Rand train with the sword and delivers a flat, cryptic farewell to the boy before leaving him alone on the balcony.
