Chapter 10 - Secrets
Egwene al’Vere — aliases: novice
Egwene rides toward Tar Valon, fighting the urge to speak of her love for Rand. She opens herself to the One Power when the Whitecloaks confront the group, causing the ground to erupt beneath their leader and scattering the riders in fear. She apologizes to the remaining officer, Dain Bornhald, for the damage caused, though her apology is half-truthful, before riding away with the group.
Chapter 11 - Tar Valon
Egwene
Rides into Tar Valon with Verin, observing the city's defenses and architecture while suppressing her anxiety about Mat’s condition. She obeys Verin’s command to silence and follows Faolain and the Accepted to her assigned quarters, gripping Elayne’s hand as she leaves the square.
Chapter 13 - Punishments
Egwene
Egwene lies in her cell-like novice room, discussing the possibility of stilling with Elayne before they are summoned by the Amyrlin. She attempts to maintain dignity while being escorted by Faolain and witnesses Nynaeve’s defiance, ultimately obeying Siuan’s commands to be raised to Accepted and punished with kitchen work.
Chapter 14 - The Bite of the Thorns

Egwene listens with uncertainty to Siuan's musings on trust and feels a chill at the Amyrlin's momentary hesitation. She reluctantly agrees to the mission to hunt the Black Ajah alongside Nynaeve after fearing for their safety, and accepts a letter of authority from Siuan.
Chapter 15 - The Gray Man
Egwene
Egwene walks with Nynaeve, expressing fear of the Black Ajah and channeling to sense danger. She is nearly killed by a crossbow bolt from a Gray Man, which she narrowly avoids by stopping. After the Gray Man is killed by an unseen assailant, Egwene obeys Sheriam's orders to remain silent, retrieves her cloak, and realizes the crossbow bolt has disappeared, confirming the presence of another Soulless.
Chapter 16 - Hunters Three

Egwene enters Elayne's room and is immediately affected by Galad's presence, feeling her pulse quicken and attempting to suppress her attraction to him. After the al'Vere brothers depart, she listens to Nynaeve and Elayne's plans to hunt the Black Ajah and Heal Mat, agreeing to join the risky channeling attempt before being interrupted by an Aes Sedai.
Chapter 17 - The Red Sister
Egwene
Egwene listens to Elaida’s interrogation, carefully constructs a truthful-yet-deceptive answer regarding their journey, and expresses shock that the Amyrlin will heal Mat.
Chapter 18 - Healing
Egwene
Egwene is led by Sheriam to the healing room, where she witnesses the Amyrlin’s desperate efforts to heal Mat. She feels the pull of the One Power but suppresses it, and later learns from the Amyrlin that Mat commanded them in the Old Tongue.
