Chapter 1 - The Flame of Tar Valon

Lan spars with Rand, effortlessly striking him with a practice sword. He explains the history of heron-marked swords and urges Rand to leave for Tar Valon. He observes the approach of the Amyrlin Seat's procession with serious demeanor before retreating into the tower.

Chapter 6 - Dark Prophecy

Lan finds Rand in the corridor and informs him that Moiraine has arranged for him to leave the keep immediately. He teases Rand about the women's fascination with him before walking away, leaving Rand to decide his next move.

Chapter 7 - Blood Calls Blood

Lan Mandragoran interrupts Rand’s attempt to flee, forcing him to change into formal attire and instructing him on the proper etiquette for meeting the Amyrlin Seat, while giving him a pin associated with Manetheren to help maintain his dignity.

Chapter 8 - The Dragon Reborn

Lan stands in the outer courtyard and speaks privately with Nynaeve, giving her a heavy gold signet ring from the line of Malkieri kings to guarantee her guestright and aid. He dismisses their past romantic tension and leaves to attend to the Amyrlin's departure.

Lan rides at the side of the procession and visits Egwene's tent to speak with Nynaeve in the dark, returning only once. It is later noted that he vanished with Moiraine two days before the group reached Medo.

Chapter 22 - Watchers

Lan confronts Moiraine about her plans to pass his bond, expressing anger at her lack of trust and his status as a 'parcel'. He later fights and kills a Draghkar alongside Jaem to save Moiraine's life, claiming her anger caused his delayed arrival.

Lan sits under a tree sharpening his belt knife. He gives Rand a careful look and a nod upon Rand's arrival at the camp.
