The valet Germain answers the doorbell and describes the mysterious stranger to Villefort. He exits the room when ordered by Villefort to leave him alone with his visitor.
Chapter 12 - Father and Son
Germain — aliases: valet
Germain answers the door to Villefort's visitor and is silenced by a look from Villefort, who later calls his valet before settling his account with the hotel and leaping into the waiting carriage.
Chapter 39 - The Guests
Germain — aliases: the valet de chambre, John
Germain, Albert’s fifteen-year-old valet, delivers newspapers and letters, takes orders for oysters and wine, and announces the arrival of guests. He later informs Albert that breakfast is served and announces the Count’s arrival.
