A younger officer with a shaved head and a banner crossed by two white bars, Tavolin commands the detachment of soldiers that meets Rand in the morning. He bids the group farewell to ride to Cairhien and smiles briefly at Rand before leading the procession out of the village, asking if they should ride.

Tavolin commands the escort of soldiers, rides with disdain at the Foregate crowd, and returns from the guardhouse with officers to confirm Rand's identity with the clerks.
