Loial rides with the group, climbs the steep terrain on foot when his horse struggles, and helps carry his quarterstaff before the group escapes via the Portal Stone. He confirms the location is likely Kinslayer’s Dagger and listens to Selene's theory about the Mirror Worlds.

Loial accompanies Rand into the enemy camp, carrying him on his horse to scout by moonlight. He physically carries the heavy golden chest out of the camp while Rand distracts and kills Trollocs, then runs alongside his horse to escape the pursuing horde, expressing confusion at Rand's declaration of madness.

Chapter 36 - Among the Elders

Loial sits anxiously outside the Elder’s hall, reading a book while Ogier women watch him. He is summoned to the Elders, where Rand and his friends vouch for him. He receives a flower from Erith and learns Alar has commanded Rand to ensure his safe return to Shangtai. He expresses relief that the Waygate cannot be used and suggests other stedding locations before the group moves to the Portal Stone.

Loial sits sprawled and stunned by the psychic surge of the Stone, later recovering enough to mount up and ride with the group toward Toman Head.
Chapter 44 - Five Will Ride Forth

Loial reads in the camp and volunteers to join the infiltration party, offering to carry the chest. Verin dismisses him, stating that Ogier would attract too much attention on Toman Head.
Chapter 49 - What Was Meant to Be
