Chapter 34 - An Apparition

The Count appears in the Colosseum in a cloak, holding a secret audience with a bandit to arrange a pardon. He is seen later in the opera box, pale and motionless, sitting with a Greek woman. He finally reveals his face to Franz and Albert in his own drawing room.
Chapter 35 - La Mazzolata

The Count invites Franz and Albert to his window to witness an execution, discussing his views on vengeance and the inadequacy of European justice. He observes the execution of Andrea with a look of triumphant passion and a terrible laugh, remarking on the condemned man's fury at being pardined while his companion died.

The Count arrives at his Paris mansion, purchases the house in Auteuil with immediate effect, and notices Bertuccio's extreme anxiety regarding the location before ordering him to accompany the evening visit.
