Chapter 26 - Discord

Thom / Thom Merrilin — aliases: gleeman, old fool

Thom returns to his room with his instruments, greeting Rand and Loial. He dismisses Dena to speak privately with Rand, refusing the Horn of Valere and expressing disdain for the Great Game. He recounts the death of his nephew Owyn and gives Rand a spare flute before deciding to remain in Cairhien with Dena rather than join the quest.

Chapter 32 - Dangerous Words

Thom plays a harp and recites tales in one of the manor's rooms, ignoring Rand's initial presence. Rand approaches him to escape the noblewomen, and Thom warns Rand about Cairhien's political dangers and his entanglement with Aes Sedai before observing the noblewomen watching them.

Chapter 34 - The Wheel Weaves

Thom returns to his inn in the Foregate and discovers Dena murdered in her bed. He kills two assassins who enter his room, then learns from Zera that the killers served King Galldrian and that Lord Barthanes has been found dead. Despite Zera's urging to flee, he leaves for the stables as smoke rises from the granaries.
