Bayle Domon meets with three men wearing coats with silver, scarlet, and gold embroidery at an inn in Illian, accepting a heavy purse and a sealed warrant from King Galldrian to capture a 'Darkfriend' in Mayene. Fearing for his life due to the warrant and previous attacks on his crew, he orders his ship Spray to sail west immediately.

Bayle Domon sits alone in the inn, muttering about his captivity by High Lord Turak. He agrees to sail with Nynaeve's group upon seeing the Serpent ring and hearing about the captured Aes Sedai, warning them of the dangers of the Seanchan before agreeing to be ready to depart.

Bayle Domon waits on his ship, instructing his crew to be ready for action and threatening mutineers while waiting for the women to board.

Bayle Domon waits on his ship at the docks, restrains his crewman Aedwin Cole from cutting the mooring lines, and urges the women to hurry while fearing the chaos in the town.
