Chapter 3 - News from the Plain

Lan — aliases: Warder, Gaidin

Lan appears from the twilight with Moiraine, his cloak shifting with shadows, and joins the group at the fire with Uno and Loial. He confirms the presence of the Soulless, offers to patrol the camp perimeter, and quickly eats three dishes of stew before hurrying after Moiraine.

Chapter 5 - Nightmares Walking

Lan wakes fully clothed to lead the defense, fighting Trollocs and a Myrddraal, then supports Moiraine and carries her to rest after she heals everyone.

Chapter 6 - The Hunt Begins

Chapter 33 - Within the Weave

Scouts the path and arranges rooms under the name Andra. He questions Orban’s story of fighting Aiel with a flat, skeptical voice and observes the inn with cold wariness.

Chapter 34 - A Different Dance

Lan questions the innkeeper about the false Dragon rumors and later confronts Perrin in the square, furious that the Aiel was freed, ordering him to retrieve Loial and rush to the stables to find passage to Tear.

Chapter 35 - The Falcon

Lan outpaces Perrin to the stairs, leads the group to the stables, bribes the stableman with gold, pays the captain and sailors for passage, and guides Moiraine below deck.

Chapter 36 - Daughter of the Night

Lan is seen on deck of the Snow Goose, looking over his horse Mandarb while Zarine sits nearby sharpening her knives.

Chapter 41 - A Hunter’s Oath

Lan rides ahead of the group onto the Illian docks, examining his sword blade and displaying subtle amusement at the tension between the women, though he remains silent about Zarine's oath.

Chapter 42 - Easing the Badger

Lan escorts the group through Illian and confronts Moiraine about her intention to leave alone, citing his Warder bond. He is ordered to obey and leave with Perrin, leaving him grim-faced and worried.

Chapter 43 - Shadowbrothers

Lan deduces the presence of a Darkhound by examining stone footprints in the street and prepares to leave immediately to find Moiraine, ordering the group to sleep while providing only grim, incomplete answers to their inquiries.

Chapter 44 - Hunted

Lan finishes saddling the horses while Nieda holds a lantern, and he tells Zarine to hold the horses while he prepares to fight. He rides up to Zarine to instruct her to hold the mounts, noting her knives will be useless against the Darkhounds. Perrin questions why the Darkhounds were not sent by Sammael, and Lan agrees with Loial that the Ogier's suggestion to wait on the mound is a good one.

Lan leads the group into the city and selects their inn, though he keeps his color-shifting cloak packed away. He insists on accompanying Moiraine into the Stone of Tear to fight Be'lal, revealing that he has spotted Aiel hiding on the city rooftops.

Lan accompanies Moiraine to the inn, follows her orders to bring the innkeeper Jurah Haret for questioning, and returns to his room before vanishing down the stairs in his color-changing cloak.
