Chapter 10 - The Hunt Begins

Loial accompanies Rand and Hurin, identifies the spire's corruption, and begins discussing history and the Ways with Selene, who notes that some Elders lack her historical knowledge.

Chapter 17 - Choices

Loial assists Rand in the defense against the grolm and climbs steep terrain to reach the Portal Stone. After the journey to the true world, he observes the landscape and offers his limited knowledge regarding the nature of the mirror worlds.

Chapter 19 - Beneath the Dagger

Loial waits anxiously outside the Elders' chamber, fearing for his fate among the Ogier women before eventually sitting with a book to hide his embarrassment. He receives a trueheart blossom from Erith, which he secretly preserves after being called handsome. He expresses relief that the Waygate cannot be used, then lists potential Waygates at other steddings before Verin redirects the plan to a Portal Stone.

Chapter 37 - What Might Be

Loial appears concerned about being allowed to go and makes a loud gulp during the channeling. He sits sprawled with wide eyes after the surge, stunned by the experience, before the group mounts to ride west.

Chapter 41 - Disagreements

Loial

Loial checks his saddlebags to protect his books from the rain and worries about them rather than his own comfort. He urges Rand to be less hasty in deciding to go to Falme, arguing that a few more days will not change the outcome, before drying his books and removing his wet coat.

Chapter 44 - Five Will Ride Forth

Loial reads a book and expresses a desire to see Falme and the Aryth Ocean, eventually offering to carry the chest containing the Horn of Valere, though he is ordered to stay behind.
