Chapter 9 - Leavetakings

Hurin, a man with the ability to smell violence and its trail, joins Ingtar’s party. He identifies the scent of Trollocs and Darkfriends and directs the group south toward Almoth Plain.

Chapter 10 - The Hunt Begins

Hurin leads the tracking by scent, identifying Trolloc tracks and the location of murders, and reports the direction changes of the fleeing quarry. He confirms the trail remains south even after the party discovers the dead Myrddraal.

Chapter 11 - Glimmers of the Pattern

Hurin gives Rand a respectful nod, explains he was listening to Loial, and makes his bed beside Rand and Loial near the stone, staying silent during Rand's mood.

Chapter 13 - From Stone to Stone

Hurin wakes in the strange world, initially panicking but then finding resolve in Rand's perceived lordship. He confirms he can still smell the Darkfriends' trail despite the world's unnatural state. He guides the group south and rides ahead to scout the path.

Hurin tracks the Darkfriends' scent with intense concentration, though he begins to experience strange sensations of remembering violence that isn't physically present. He attempts to keep his humor up despite the growing dread of the environment.

Chapter 16 - In the Mirror of Darkness

Hurin tracks the faint scent of Darkfriends through the world, spots a woman at the spire, stares at Selene in awe, and reports that the trail is angling west toward the mountains.

Chapter 17 - Choices

Hurin confirms that the Darkfriends are likely still in the other world and agrees to track their faint scent trail in the morning.

Chapter 19 - Beneath the Dagger

Hurin

Hurin wakes Rand to report a distant fire, serves as a scout to verify the enemy's location after the Horn is stolen, and reacts with discomfort to the presence of the tainted dagger.

Chapter 20 - Saidin

Hurin

Hurin rides with the group, tracking scents. He notes that the guards in the pit below have noticed their presence as they depart for the village of Tremonsien.

Chapter 21 - The Nine Rings

Hurin carries the group's saddlebags and attempts to identify Mistress Madwen's accent. He explains the concept of Daes Dae'mar to Rand and observes the departure of Selene and the arrival of the Cairhienin troops.

Chapter 25 - Cairhien

Hurin — aliases: the sniffer

Hurin explains the origins of Cairhien's refugee population to Rand and warns him against ignoring the city's political etiquette after Rand destroys the invitations. He declines to join Rand in the Foregate, preferring to stay in the common room.

Chapter 26 - Discord

Hurin remains in Rand's room while Loial and Rand go to The Bunch of Grapes.

Chapter 27 - The Shadow in the Night

Hurin

Hurin waits in Rand's room at the inn, polishing his weapons. He questions Rand about his absence and is present when Rand reads Selene's note, shrugging in response to Rand's frustration.

Chapter 30 - Daes Dae’mar

Hurin becomes increasingly formal toward Rand, insisting on bows and titles. He is found unconscious on the floor of his burning room with a head injury and is carried out by Loial.

Chapter 31 - On the Scent

Hurin is unconscious after the fire until Verin heals him. He regains his strength and follows the trail of the Darkfriends to Lord Barthanes's new manor, reporting the presence of Trolloc scent and advising that infiltration by two men is preferable to a larger force.

Chapter 32 - Dangerous Words

Hurin infiltrates the kitchens to sniff out Darkfriends, then reports to Rand that his 'servant' (Mat) has been injured. He leads Rand out of the party, acting as the face of the escape while maintaining their cover.

Chapter 33 - A Message from the Dark

Hurin leads Rand to the walled garden, following the scent trail of the Darkfriends to the Waygate. He climbs over the wall with Rand and expresses awe and fear at the Black Wind, later pleading to leave the dangerous site.

Chapter 35 - Stedding Tsofu

Hurin

Hurin is permitted to enter the stedding, walking with amazement at the environment. He draws a sword-breaker during the Aiel tension, sheathes it later, and enjoys the pristine air and food in the guest quarters.

Chapter 36 - Among the Elders

Hurin stands with the group, gaping at the Elders and later riding with Uno and the soldiers to fetch horses. He suggests using a Portal Stone to bypass the dangerous Ways and reach Toman Head quickly enough to save Mat, offering a practical alternative to the delayed journey.

Hurin

Hurin looks around anxiously for a place to run after the power surge ends, observing the desolate surroundings.

Chapter 41 - Disagreements

Hurin sniffs the air and the debris in the empty village, confirming that Fain and Trollocs were not there but that a killing occurred. He offers to follow the trail if given the chance and advises Ingtar to dress him and others in local clothing to avoid standing out.

Chapter 44 - Five Will Ride Forth

Hurin — aliases: the sniffer

Hurin detects the scent of Padan Fain in the village ruins and leads the group out, later reporting to Ingtar that the trail leads directly to Falme and that Fain must have the Shadar Logoth dagger.

Chapter 47 - The Grave Is No Bar to My Call

Hurin warns of the approaching Whitecloaks. He rides into the mist and fights alongside the Heroes of the Horn.
