Verin rides rapidly to catch up with the party, initially feigning absent-mindedness before sharply questioning Ingtar about Rand’s disappearance. She deduces the strangeness of the situation and insists on riding with them to learn everything about the young man, dismissing concerns about the Horn.

Verin examines Mat frequently and observes Urien with sharp concentration. She interrogates the Aiel about Rhuidean, dismissing his attempt to treat her as a Wise One by revealing her identity as Aes Sedai. Verin guides the group to the Portal Stone and explains the mechanics of the Worlds That Might Be, instructing Rand to choose a symbol to travel to Toman Head. She struggles to her feet after the power surge, scolds Rand for his lack of control, and determines they have lost four months of time before ordering the group to ride west to find the Horn.
