Child Byar entra nella tenda per riferire al Lord Captain Bornhald le vittime della battaglia, mostrando un comportamento freddo ed emotivamente distaccato e un intenso odio verso i prigionieri. Minaccia aggressivamente di tagliare le lingue a Perrin ed Egwene e ne richiede l'esecuzione come punizione per essere stati Darkfriends. Bornhald lo rimprovera per il suo zelo, e Byar rimane rigido e scontroso mentre viene ordinato di restituire gli effetti personali dei prigionieri.

A gaunt Whitecloak who mercilessly kicks and taunts his prisoners, Byar reveals his intention to let Perrin and Egwene escape on a rock to save time, though his lack of emotion leaves Perrin suspicious. He is swiftly struck down and disabled by Lan during the escape.
