Geofram Bornhald cabalga al frente de una legión de dos mil Hijos de la Luz a través de Tarabon, siguiendo las órdenes de Pedron Niall. Se encuentra con un grupo de Cuestionadores liderado por Einor Saren, quien ordena a la legión marchar hacia la Mancha para enfrentarse a extraños, dejando a Bornhald preguntarse si está siendo manipulado por fuerzas invisibles.

Bornhald surveys a village where Questioners have hanged villagers, including children, and interrogates a prisoner to confirm the perpetrators' identity. He dismisses a message from Jaichim Carridin ordering him to retreat, and resolves to lead his legion toward Toman Head to investigate the true threat of the Seanchan.

Chapter 44 - Five Will Ride Forth

Bornhald orders his Children of the Light to secure the village inn to hide from the Seanchan, instructs Byar to ride to Amador with messages about the Seanchan and Questioners, and identifies Perrin as a potential Darkfriend.
