Chapter 31 - The Woman of Tanchico

Thom Merrilin recites a story while drunk, lamenting his past failures and his need to hide from Elaida. He appears to be in a stupor until he briefly leaves the table, after which he returns fully sober and ready to travel, agreeing to accompany Mat to Caemlyn.
Chapter 32 - The First Ship

Thom Merrilin boards the Gray Gull with Mat, observing the captain's arrangement of the cabin and later aiding Mat in repelling the nighttime assassin attack. He notes the strange luck and the paper, stating his lack of knowledge regarding High Lord Samon, eventually settling in to sleep beside him.
Chapter 40 - A Hero in the Night

Thom acompaña a Mat a Aringill, comenta el sufrimiento de los refugiados e intenta negociar el alojamiento con los posaderos. Observa la llegada de Aludra, la identifica como una Iluminadora y aconseja a Mat que huya rápidamente del establo después de su encuentro con sus capataces.
Chapter 44 - Hunted

Thom afinar su arpa y advierte a Mat sobre los peligros de los fuegos artificiales que está examinando. Mata a uno de los asesinos con un cuchillo cuando atacan el campamento de Mat. Da una patada a la capa de la líder muerta para recuperar su cuchillo y aconseja a Mat que ensille sus caballos para que puedan continuar.
Chapter 45 - Caemlyn

Thom rides with Mat into Caemlyn, advises him to find food first, and later waits in the inn's library with Basel Gill playing a stones board game. He reacts with suspicion to Mat's fireworks and frustration at Mat's refusal to use the letter for safe passage, eventually urging Mat to consider the danger of his plan.
Chapter 47 - To Race the Shadow

Thom se sienta con Gill en la posada, escucha el informe de Mat sobre el complot, revela que sus sentimientos románticos por Morgase se han desvanecido con el tiempo y acepta marcharse a Tear para proteger a Egwene y a los demás.
Chapter 49 - A Storm in Tear

Thom plays stones with Mat, exposes Comar's weighted dice by revealing the hidden marked dice, and pulls Mat away from the scene before the Defenders arrive. He joins Mat in the random search of inns despite his worsening cough.
Chapter 52 - In Search of a Remedy
Thom
Thom suffers from a severe, wheezing cough and insists he does not need medicine before being forcibly treated by Mother Guenna. He protests vehemently when Mat leaves him behind to pursue his rescue mission, though he is restrained by Guenna's hand.
