Chapter 1 - The Flame of Tar Valon
Rand / Rand al’Thor
Rand practices sword forms with Lan, struggling to maintain the void in his mind. He accidentally channels the One Power when the wind solidifies, resulting in him being struck by Lan's practice sword and sustaining minor cuts. Terrified by the display of the One Power and the approaching Aes Sedai, he panics and runs away.
Chapter 2 - The Welcome

Rand attempts to evade the Amyrlin Seat by fleeing the keep, but is forced to change into new clothes provided by Lady Amalisa’s maids after Elansu Shatayan confiscates his old garments. He then discovers that Lord Agelmar has sealed the gates and stables, preventing him from escaping on horseback, and rushes to find his friends now that the welcome is complete.
Chapter 3 - Friends and Enemies

Rand tries to leave Fal Dara but finds the gates sealed, feeling a sense of being watched. He finds Loial, Mat, and Perrin, then angrily drives them away to protect them from his perceived danger. Egwene finds him, and after a visit to the dungeon where Fain warns him, she leads him to hide in the women's apartments.
Chapter 6 - Dark Prophecy

Rand wakes from a nightmare and hides in Egwene's room, then rushes to the dungeon upon hearing alarms, where he finds Egwene and Mat unconscious and Fain escaped. After a confrontation with Liandrin is broken up by Moiraine, he learns of the Horn's theft from Ingtar and is told by Lan that he may leave the keep.
Chapter 8 - The Dragon Reborn

Rand is summoned to the Amyrlin Seat’s chambers where he is formally identified as the Dragon Reborn and told he can channel. He maintains his composure through the revelation, refuses to be used, and agrees to ride with Ingtar to find the Horn of Valere. Later, he has a final, emotional farewell with Egwene in the women's apartments before walking away.
Chapter 9 - Leavetakings
Rand — aliases: sheepherder, Lord Rand
Rand ties his saddlebags and mounts his horse, attempting to apologize to Mat and Perrin who ride past without stopping. He listens to Lan's instruction on 'Sheathing the Sword' and later speaks with the sniffer Hurin, who identifies a dark trail leading south, prompting Rand to ride after Ingtar.
Chapter 10 - The Hunt Begins

Rand rides with the party, troubled by the distance between him and his friends. He enters a house in the abandoned village and experiences a repeated, paralyzing vision of the villagers' deaths, during which he unconsciously channels the One Power to burn the flies. He then discovers the dead Myrddraal and leaves the village quickly.
Chapter 11 - Glimmers of the Pattern

Rand receives the bundle from Ingtar and secretly opens it to find the banner of the Dragon. He confesses his ability to channel to Mat and Perrin, causing Mat to flee and Perrin to urge him to leave, before finally stowing the banner in his saddlebag.
Chapter 13 - From Stone to Stone
Rand — aliases: Lord Rand
Rand wakes in the desolate hollow, attempts to channel through the stone cylinder, but recoils from the tainted feel of saidin. He decides to pursue the Darkfriends instead of trying to use the Power again, promising to find another way to return, and rides south with his companions.
Chapter 14 - Wolfbrother
Rand — aliases: Rand al'Thor, The Builder
Rand is discussed by the characters as having vanished without a trace along with Hurin and Loial, but he does not appear on-screen in this chapter.
Chapter 15 - Kinslayer
Rand
Rand rides with Loial and Hurin through the desolate landscape, attempting to lead them while hiding his own fears. During his watch, he confronts a spectral Ba'alzamon, refusing the Dark One's temptations of power and service. He emerges from the encounter unharmed but finds a heron branded on his palm.
Chapter 16 - In the Mirror of Darkness

Rand rides with Loial and Hurin, confronting a spectral Ba'alzamon earlier and now dealing with the disorienting nature of the stone. He gallops to a monument, recognizes the twisted inscription, and then sprints to save Selene from a grolm, using the void to shoot its eye. He binds his hand with Selene's ointment, refuses her suggestion to use a Portal Stone to leave, and orders Hurin to follow the trail as grolms approach.
Chapter 17 - Choices
Rand / Rand al'Thor — aliases: Lord Rand, my Lord
Rand leads his companions to a hill to defend against grolm, killing five with his bow while submerged in the void, where he feels a terrifying craving for saidin. He then channels through a Portal Stone with Selene's guidance, bringing everyone back to the real world, though Loial believes they have arrived in Kinslayer's Dagger, and he struggles to shake the addiction to the Power.
