Loial watches men play dice in a storeroom and explains that he cannot help Rand escape because Ogier did not build Fal Dara. He tries to explain the nature of ta'veren to the friends, which upsets Mat, and is then angrily dismissed by Rand.
Chapter 9 - Leavetakings

Loial arrives on horseback to join the quest, carrying books in his saddlebags. He explains his desire to see history weave itself and converses with Rand about Ogier habits before the group departs.
Chapter 10 - The Hunt Begins

Loial rides with the group, discussing the history of Hardan and its fall with Rand and Ingtar. He accompanies them across the river and explains Shienaran burial customs when the guards' bodies are found, later riding into the abandoned village alongside the others.

Loial sits by a half-buried stone in the camp, examining markings on it with his pipe, and later joins Hurin to let Rand rest in silence, sensing his mood.
Chapter 13 - From Stone to Stone
Loial — aliases: Ogier
Loial recognizes the stone cylinder from an ancient text and explains its potential function. He expresses deep doubt about their ability to use the Stone or navigate this world without the One Power, but follows Rand southward on his horse.

Loial is mentioned by Ingtar as one of the missing Ogier who vanished with Rand and Hurin, though he does not appear on-screen.
