Zarine Bashere leaps onto the Snow Goose, reveals she is a Hunter of the Horn looking for the Horn in the Mountains of Mist, and adopts the names Mandarb and Faile for her travels, insisting on accompanying Perrin’s group.

Zarine sits on a coil of rope near the railing, sharpening a knife and watching Perrin walk by.
Chapter 41 - A Hunter’s Oath
Zarine / Faile — aliases: falcon, Hunter of the Horn
Zarine, insisting she is called Faile, boldly negotiates her place in the group by swearing a Hunter’s oath to Moiraine to heed commands and ask no questions. She then attempts to mount Perrin's horse, requiring him to lift her onto Stepper's back.
Chapter 42 - Easing the Badger

Zarine travels with the group, mocking Perrin's shyness and eating her fish with disgust. She retrieves a knife from a dead Gray Man during the fight and argues with Moiraine about her lack of information regarding the danger they face.
Chapter 43 - Shadowbrothers

Zarine listens to the group's discovery of the Darkhound and initially challenges Lan's severity. She stays with Perrin in their room, questioning his identity and ta'veren status, before watching him wake from his dream.
Chapter 44 - Hunted
Zarine — aliases: Mandarb (Mandarb)
Zarine recusa-se a jurar um juramento para seguir por outro caminho, escolhendo acompanhar o grupo. Ela monta um garanhão baio oferecido por Lan e cavalga ao lado de Perrin. Ela questiona Moiraine sobre a ameaça e o poder que ela usou, expressando choque ao perceber que Mat soara o Chifre de Valere.
Chapter 50 - The Hammer

Zarine, que insiste em ser chamada de Faile, questiona o grupo sobre seu destino e o perigo dos Forsaken. Após reafirmar seu compromisso com a caça apesar de seu medo, ela permanece com o grupo.
Chapter 53 - A Flow of the Spirit

Zarine walks with Perrin toward the inn and eagerly runs into their private dining room to find Moiraine. She collapses on the floor, trapped by a hedgehog ter’angreal, appearing lifeless with a stopped heartbeat while her consciousness is pulled into the World of Dreams.
Chapter 54 - Into the Stone
Faile
Faile appears in Perrin's dream as a vision chained to a stone block, smiles at him as he frees her, and then fades away as the dream shifts.
Chapter 55 - What Is Written in Prophecy
Faile — aliases: falcon, falcons
Faile appears in the dream chained to a perch, protected by the falcons. Perrin breaks her chain, and she kneels over him in the waking world, wiping blood from his face and calling him her poor blacksmith. She is physically present in the dining room of the Star inn, unconscious in the dream but awake in reality.
