Einer der Wachen am Ausfallstor, Ragan, trägt ein vernarbtes Gesicht und einen goldenen Surcoat mit dem Schwarzen Adler. Er begrüßt Rand lässig, teilt ihm jedoch mit, dass die Tore auf Befehl verschlossen sind und er das Tor ohne schriftlichen Pass nicht verlassen kann.

Ragan aids Masema in hauling the ferry across the river and scouts the far bank, reporting that there is no ambush but insisting Ingtar must see the stoneoak himself.
