Loial is found in a storeroom watching men dice, initially discussing the Amyrlin Seat and his inability to play games. He explains that he knows no secret exits from Fal Dara and later asserts the nature of ta'veren before stalk away after Rand drives him off.
Chapter 9 - Leavetakings
Loial — aliases: Builder (Costruttore), Kiseran (Kiseran)
Loial arriva sul suo grande cavallo per unirsi al gruppo di Rand, affermando di non poter perdere l'occasione di vedere la storia tessersi attorno ai ta'veren. Conversa con Rand riguardo alla vita degli Ogier prima di partire con il gruppo.
Chapter 10 - The Hunt Begins

Loial viaggia accanto a Rand, discutendo degli Aiel e della storia della caduta nazione di Hardan. Spiega le usanze funerarie di Shienar ed è testimone della scoperta del Myrddraal morto.
Chapter 11 - Glimmers of the Pattern

Loial è seduto su una pietra esaminando le incisioni, si unisce a Hurin vicino al falò e offre la sua compagnia a Rand prima che si preparino i letti insieme.
Chapter 13 - From Stone to Stone
Loial
Loial si risveglia accanto a Rand e identifica il cilindro centrale come una Pietra di un'Età precedente all'Età delle Leggende. Consiglia a Rand che le Pietre potrebbero non funzionare tramite il Potere Uno ed esprime dubbi sulla loro capacità di utilizzarle per i viaggi. Lo accompagna Rand e Hurin verso sud dopo che Rand prende la decisione di cacciare i Compagni dell'Oscurità.
Chapter 15 - Kinslayer

Loial viaggia accanto al gruppo con inquietudine finché non si ferma per cantare a un albero di spazzole gigante, usando il suo Talent in declino per creare un bastone da viaggio come protezione. Rimane scettico sulla sicurezza della terra e porta con sé il bastone mentre continuano la loro ricerca.
Chapter 16 - In the Mirror of Darkness

Loial accompagna Rand e Hurin, identifica la corruzione della guglia e inizia a discutere di storia e delle Vie con Selene, la quale nota che alcuni Anziani non possiedono la sua conoscenza storica.
Chapter 17 - Choices
Loial — aliases: Ogier (Ogier)
Loial assiste Rand nella difesa contro i grolm e sale un terreno ripido per raggiungere la Pietra del Portale. Dopo il viaggio verso il mondo vero, osserva il paesaggio e offre le sue limitate conoscenze riguardo alla natura dei mondi specchianti.
Chapter 19 - Beneath the Dagger

Loial si sveglia e si unisce a Rand di guardia notturna, identificandosi come un alantin. Accompagna Rand al campo di Fain, solleva il pesante baule contenente il Corno e torna di corsa al loro accampamento mentre Rand combatte i Trollocs che li inseguono, mostrando sorpresa per lo stato mentale di Rand.
Chapter 20 - Saidin

Loial travels alongside his horse, carrying the Horn of Valere in a chest covered by his blanket to disguise it as clothes. He observes Rand's strange behavior during the incident with the giant hand and crystal sphere and later rides into Tremonsien, noting the village's layout and the locals' reaction to his size.
Chapter 21 - The Nine Rings

Loial transports the chest containing the Horn of Valere disguised under his blanket. He discusses the Age of Legends statue with Caldevwin and prepares to leave Tremonsien with Rand and Hurin under the escort of Caldevwin's soldiers.
Chapter 25 - Cairhien
Loial — aliases: an Ogier of Stedding Shangtai (un Ogier di Stedding Shangtai)
Loial accompagna Rand a Cairhien, portando il Corno di Valere nascosto sotto la sua coperta. Fa commenti sullo stato delle torri di Cairhien e rifiuta l'offerta di Rand di esplorare la Foregate, scegliendo invece di restare alla locanda per leggere ed evitare gli Ogier del suo stedd.
Chapter 26 - Discord

Loial accompanies Rand to meet Thom, carrying the Horn disguised under his blanket. He meets Thom formally and attempts to sit on the bed when invited by Dena. Later, he excuses himself to let Rand speak with Thom privately, citing an interest in a dice game.
Chapter 27 - The Shadow in the Night

Loial accompagna Rand attraverso il Foregate, uccidendo un Trolloc in legittima difesa e aiutando a guidare Rand e Selene in salvo. Contribuisce ad accendere un fuoco d'artificio per creare una distrazione, sfugge all'esplosione risultante e torna alla locanda con Rand, spiegando che Selene è scivolata via durante la fuga.
Chapter 30 - Daes Dae’mar

Loial accompagna Rand attraverso Cairhien, consigliandolo sulla futilità di navigare nel Grande Gioco. Aiuta a salvare Hurin dall'incendio portando il fiutatore sulle spalle mentre Rand recupera i suoi effetti, notando che il baule contenente il Corno è scomparso.
Chapter 31 - On the Scent

Loial fetches the horses and claims he has grown used to walking. He carries the Horn of Valere and reads books at the inn, showing worry for Rand. He suggests that the Darkfriends would have taken the Horn directly if they could, indicating they lack the means to open the chest.
Chapter 32 - Dangerous Words

Loial attends the gathering to fulfill his role as a sought-after Ogier noble. He informs Rand that a Waygate is nearby, explaining the history of the site as a former Ogier grove, and urges Rand to disperse among the crowd to avoid suspicion.

Loial accompagna Rand al giardino, identifica la struttura come un Portale delle Vie in un antico bosco di Ogier e aiuta Rand a superare il muro. Si affretta a riposizionare la foglia di Avendesora per contribuire a chiudere il portale e in seguito conferma il piano di viaggiare attraverso altri Portali delle Vie a Stedding Tsofu.
Chapter 35 - Stedding Tsofu

Loial explains the nature of steddings and the Longing to his friends, and is introduced to Erith. He becomes visibly nervous in the guest quarters, fearing the Elders will arrange a marriage for him, and compares Ogier mating rituals to human ones with Rand and Mat.
Chapter 36 - Among the Elders

Loial waits anxiously outside the Elders' chamber, fearing for his fate among the Ogier women before eventually sitting with a book to hide his embarrassment. He receives a trueheart blossom from Erith, which he secretly preserves after being called handsome. He expresses relief that the Waygate cannot be used, then lists potential Waygates at other steddings before Verin redirects the plan to a Portal Stone.
Chapter 37 - What Might Be

Loial appare preoccupato per il permesso di andare e deglutisce rumorosamente durante il canalaggio. Si accascia con gli occhi spalancati dopo l'impulso, stordito dall'esperienza, prima che il gruppo si monti a cavallo per dirigersi a ovest.
Chapter 41 - Disagreements
Loial
Loial checks his saddlebags to protect his books from the rain and worries about them rather than his own comfort. He urges Rand to be less hasty in deciding to go to Falme, arguing that a few more days will not change the outcome, before drying his books and removing his wet coat.
Chapter 44 - Five Will Ride Forth
Loial — aliases: Ogier (Ogier)
Loial reads a book and expresses a desire to see Falme and the Aryth Ocean, eventually offering to carry the chest containing the Horn of Valere, though he is ordered to stay behind.
Chapter 49 - What Was Meant to Be
Loial
Loial remains at the camp, reading a book and waiting for Rand. He reaffirms his friendship with Rand despite the dangers, stating he hopes Rand is still his friend and choosing to stay with him rather than flee.
