Jimmy Bean, kneeling in the flowerbeds outside Pendleton's house, overhears the conversation between John Pendleton and Dr. Chilton through an open window. Realizing the doctor's intent to help Pollyanna and the obstacle of Miss Polly's pride, he resolves to personally intervene to solve the problem.

Chapter 30 - Jimmy Takes the Helm

Jimmy Bean arrives at the homestead and earnestly explains to Miss Polly that he overheard Dr. Chilton and Mr. Pendleton discussing a cure for Pollyanna. He clarifies that Chilton is willing to help but cannot enter without Miss Polly's invitation due to professional pride, urging her to allow the visit so Pollyanna might walk.
