Lewin, a tall graying man, leads a rescue mission to save his sisters Colline and Maigran from villagers who captured them. After the mission succeeds but Charlin is killed and four men are slain during the struggle involving Lewin, Lewin is cast out by his greatfather Adan and tribe for breaking the Way.
