Chapter 55 - Into the Deep

Summary

Nynaeve, Elayne, Egeanin, and the captured Panarch Amathera escape the chaos of the Panarch's Palace with the help of Juilin, Bayle Domon, and Thom Merrilin, who lead a contingent of sailors to create a diversion and shield their passage through the rioting streets. Once safe at the Three Plum Court inn, Elayne introduces Amathera to the innkeeper Rendra under the alias 'Thera' to hide her identity while she recovers, explaining that she intends to let the Panarch learn the realities of common life by working for her meals. The group examines the stolen cuendillar seal and the black control collar and bracelets; upon discovering that the black items are imbued with intense emotions and cannot be destroyed by fire, Nynaeve orders Domon to sink the collars in the deep sea to prevent them from ever being used to control Rand al'Thor, leaving the seal to be delivered to the White Tower.
