Chapter 3 - The Peddler
Egwene
Egwene stands behind Nynaeve, watching the youths with disapproval and a secret smile. She confronts Rand about his feelings and her future as a Wisdom, revealing her desire to leave the Two Rivers and her fear of losing her connection to him if she does.
Chapter 4 - The Gleeman
Egwene
Egwene reacts with delight at seeing a gleeman and asks for specific stories, only to be scolded by Thom Merrilin for her age-appropriate behavior. She glares at Rand for laughing at her request and later follows Nynaeve away after the Wisdom rebukes the Council.
Chapter 7 - Out of the Woods
Egwene
Running through the smoky village with bandages, Egwene stops to guide Rand and Tam to Nynaeve. She embraces Rand in sympathy after Nynaeve refuses to help his father, then leaves abruptly at Nynaeve's shout to assist the Wisdom with her duties.
Chapter 10 - Leavetaking
Egwene
Egwene sneaks into the stables, revealing she has pieced together the boys' plans. She refuses to be left behind, and despite Lan's objections, Moiraine permits her to come. She mounts Bela and rides near Moiraine as they depart.
Chapter 11 - The Road to Taren Ferry
Egwene
Egwene rides Bela, who runs with surprising stamina after Moiraine’s intervention. She displays excitement and delight at the thrill of the night ride, smiling in the moonlight, and shouts urging for Rand to mount as the Draghkar returns.
Chapter 12 - Across the Taren
Egwene
Egwene marches along without a word, her back straight and her head high. She travels to the hidden hollow with Moiraine, where she is guided to channel saidar for the first time, producing a faint light from a stone that Moiraine confirms was her own doing, much to Egwene's delight.
Chapter 13 - Choices
Egwene / Egwene al'Vere
Egwene cuts her hair to conceal her identity as an initiate, styling it in the manner of an Aes Sedai. She travels with Moiraine, learning about the One Power and the history of the male Aes Sedai. Upon reaching Baerlon, she gasps in surprise at the city and agrees eagerly with Moiraine about the desire for hot baths.
Chapter 14 - The Stag and Lion
Egwene
Egwene takes a bath and dines with the party, though she remains distant from Rand. She questions Lan's suspicion of the innkeeper.
Chapter 16 - The Wisdom
Egwene / Egwene al'Vere
Egwene sits hidden in her hood during the confrontation, obeys Moiraine's order to leave the room with the others, and fiddles with her unbraided hair while waiting outside.
Chapter 17 - Watchers and Hunters
Egwene
Egwene leaves with Moiraine, fleeing the inn before the Fade appears. She is frightened during the escape, sees Moiraine's towering form, and rides with the group, angry at Lan's lack of sympathy for the inn's victims.
Chapter 18 - The Caemlyn Road

Egwene travels with the group, complains about the food, fights alongside Moiraine and Nynaeve, and is surprised to understand Mat's warcry before it fades from her memory.
Chapter 19 - Shadow’s Waiting
Egwene
Egwene remains at the safe house, warming her hands at the fire. She startles when the boys burst in and later listens with unease as they recount their terrifying encounter with Mordeth and the watchers in the shadows.
Chapter 22 - A Path Chosen
Egwene
Egwene is found waiting by a fire with Bela after swimming across the river. She shares her food with Perrin and listens as he outlines a new plan to go to Caemlyn, ultimately agreeing to follow his lead.
Chapter 23 - Wolfbrother
Egwene
Egwene insists on sharing the riding duties with Bela and argues with Perrin about leadership. She eats the roasted rabbit provided by Elyas and attempts to pass as travelers from Saldaea, but her lie is exposed by the wolves. She insists they continue to Caemlyn, standing firm against Perrin's hesitation and Elyas's offer of sanctuary.
Chapter 25 - The Traveling People

Egwene travels on her mare Bela, initially displaying fear and skepticism toward the wolves. She is charmed by Aram's gentleness and dances with him, but later becomes distressed and seeks reassurance from Perrin regarding the safety of their friends before retiring for the night.
Chapter 27 - Shelter From the Storm
Egwene
Egwene enjoys her time with the Tuatha'an, dancing and learning from the women, and accepts beads from Aram. She insists on staying with the group rather than remaining with the Tinkers, and departs with Perrin and Elyas, exchanging pleasantries with the departing hosts.
Chapter 29 - Eyes Without Pity
Egwene
Egwene accompanies the group, initially anxious about the pursuit and the ravens, and later confused by the strange sensation of entering the stedding. She fires her sling at a descending raven and eventually vomits from fatigue. Upon reaching the stedding, she questions Elyas about the history of the statue and its relation to Artur Hawkwing.
Chapter 30 - Children of Shadow
Egwene
Hides under the statue with Perrin, is captured and bound in the tent, and helps construct a story about their journey to convince Bornhald of their innocence, though she remains wary of Byar's hatred.
Chapter 38 - Rescue
Egwene
Egwene remains asleep during the initial rescue, wakes to find her bonds cut, and is reunited with Nynaeve. She expresses concern for Rand and Mat, and eventually falls asleep by the fire while the others discuss the situation.
Chapter 41 - Old Friends and New Threats
Egwene
Stands back from the bed and asks about Mat's condition, then listens as Moiraine explains the danger of the dagger and the threat of the Dark One.
Chapter 42 - Remembrance of Dreams
Egwene
Egwene stands with the group in the library, amazed by the presence of an Ogier. She listens to the discussion about the Eye of the World and confirms that the Tinkers she traveled with received the same warning from a dying Aiel woman. She cries softly while Nynaeve holds her.
Chapter 43 - Decisions and Apparitions
Egwene
Egwene asks Loial about the construction of the Ways and refuses to stay behind, declaring she is part of the Pattern just as Rand is. She later speaks privately with Rand, rejecting his attempt to send her away for his safety, and listens to Lan's briefing.
Chapter 44 - The Dark Along the Ways
Egwene
Egwene rides into the cellar and through the Waygate, where she presses close to Rand in the darkness. She looks around with apprehension at the light-consuming blackness of the Ways.
Chapter 45 - What Follows in Shadow
Egwene
Egwene clings to Rand's arm in fear, chokes on her tea when teased about Aram, and hugs Nynaeve after escaping the Ways. She is horrified by the whispers of the Black Wind.
Chapter 46 - Fal Dara
Egwene
Egwene rides through the desolate hills and into Fal Dara, shivering at the cold. She deduces how recently the local farmers fled based on their window curtains. She privately speaks to Rand about her dance with Aram.
Chapter 47 - More Tales of the Wheel
Egwene — aliases: Lady Egwene
Egwene sits with Nynaeve and Agelmar, asking questions about Lan's titles and history. She expresses hope for Fain's redemption and gasps when Moiraine reveals Fain's role in the Trolloc attack on the Two Rivers.
Chapter 48 - The Blight
Egwene
Egwene complains about the heat. She helps set up the camp and expresses bright hope to Rand that they will all be together in Tar Valon, even joking that he will be her Warder. She is cautioned by Moiraine about channeling abilities.
Chapter 49 - The Dark One Stirs
Egwene
Egwene crouches beside Nynaeve, engaging in a hushed exchange that Nynaeve initially dismisses before laughing. She watches the Wisdom and Moiraine shiver and later rides into the Blight, gaping in astonishment as the landscape transforms into the Green Man's sanctuary.
Chapter 50 - Meetings at the Eye

Egwene wears a cap of flowers and tries to channel her untrained power against the Forsaken to help Nynaeve. Rand grabs her arm and physically pulls her away as she is targeted by Aginor.
Chapter 52 - There Is Neither Beginning Nor End
Egwene
Egwene kneels in the clearing, terrified, until Rand arrives and reassures her. She apologizes to him, cries, and listens to his account of the battle, tightening her embrace when he describes the horror of his mother's illusion.
Chapter 53 - The Wheel Turns
Egwene
Egwene mounts Bela and observes the oak tree as Loial sings. She later helps Moiraine and rides south with the group. In Fal Dara, she confronts Rand on the balcony, urging him to come to Tar Valon with her, Mat, and Nynaeve, but he refuses.
