Gawyn observes the smoke from Dumai's Wells from a distance, filled with regret over his inability to kill Rand al'Thor and his decision to stay away from Elayne. He rides out with his Younglings, engages in a skirmish with Shaido Aiel, and kills an Aielman in combat. He commands his men to hold formation and search for the wounded and a missing sister.
