A tall gray horse with a black mane and tail, Cloud is spirited and difficult to mount, tossing his head and prancing sideways as Rand attempts to get him into the saddle.
Chapter 11 - The Road to Taren Ferry
Cloud
Cloud is Rand's spirited gray horse, which runs fiercely to catch Lan's black horse. It is terrified by the Draghkar, dragging Rand briefly before being calmed and refreshed by Moiraine.
Chapter 12 - Across the Taren
Cloud
Cloud is led onto the ferry by Rand and stands on the deck during the crossing. He is later fed by Rand in the hollow.
Chapter 13 - Choices
Cloud
Cloud is Rand’s spirited gray horse. He trots through the woods and into Baerlon, where Rand dismounts him in the stableyard.
Chapter 17 - Watchers and Hunters
Cloud
Cloud, Rand's horse, is ridden by Rand during the flight from Baerlon.
Chapter 18 - The Caemlyn Road
Cloud
Cloud is Rand's spirited gray horse, which rears and kicks at Trollocs during the battle. He is nearly thrown by hooks and jerks Rand backwards, later stumbling under the ground's tremors before galloping north with the group.
Chapter 19 - Shadow’s Waiting
Cloud
Cloud is brought into the safehouse and left standing as the group gathers, serving as Rand's mount.
Chapter 44 - The Dark Along the Ways
Red / Cloud — aliases: bay
Red (known as Red to Rand) is mounted by Rand in the stable. He is described as a bay horse with none of the fire of his previous mount, and he moves down the ramp and through the Waygate.
Chapter 45 - What Follows in Shadow
Red
Red is Rand's bay horse. He carries Rand through the dark of the Ways, stumbles briefly upon exiting the Waygate, and then trots calmly to join the others.
Chapter 46 - Fal Dara
Red
Red is Rand's bay horse, ridden through the desolate hills and into Fal Dara. He is untied from the saddle and handed over to a liveried groom in the fortress courtyard.
Chapter 48 - The Blight
Cloud — aliases: Red
Cloud, now called Red, is Rand's bay horse, ridden by Rand through the Blight and later unsaddled by the group to hobble the horses.
