Mayor Bran al'Vere leads the Village Council out to confront the crowd and silence the panic. He escorts Padan Fain into the inn for questioning alongside Tam al’Thor and the rest of the Council, and shouts at the villagers to disperse, maintaining order amidst the chaos.

Bran al'Vere questions Thom Merrilin's behavior and argues with Nynaeve about who should worry about the village's safety. He later snaps at Cenn Buie for his impertinence and returns to the inn.

Mayor Bran al'Vere sits in the cold inn, writing and cleaning his feet. He receives Rand and Tam, helps move Tam to a bed, and reveals that Moiraine used ball lightning to defeat the Trollocs. He explains the situation to Rand, who then seeks out the Aes Sedai.
