Chapter 30 - Outside the Gates

Summary

Faile and her companions escape the collapsed basement with Rolan's help, emerging into a street where Maighdin collapses from exhaustion. Outside, Perrin fights through the Shaido camp toward the gates, where he is ambushed by an indoctrinated Aram who attacks him before being killed by Shaido archers. Perrin reaches the gates just as Faile is seized by captors; he kills them and reunites with her. Faile immediately organizes the evacuation of the gai'shain while Seonid heals Perrin and they discuss Galina's betrayal, with Seonid insisting on Tower justice. Banner-General Tylee Khirgan arrives with a captive Sevanna draped across her saddle, reports the successful conclusion of the battle and the collaring of over two hundred women, and formally exchanges pleasantries with Perrin. After formal exchanges regarding Ghealdan's independence and refugee supplies, Gaul seeks to find Chiad with Elyas's help. Meanwhile, Galina flees into the woods but is captured by Therava and a retreating Shaido group; Therava confiscates the white rod, strips Galina, forces her into a collar, and declares she will be her lifelong plaything as the clan retreats to the Three-fold Land.
