Chapter 3 - The Peddler

Perrin / Perrin Aybara — aliases: the blacksmith's apprentice

Perrin pushes through the crowd to speak with Rand and Mat, expressing his fear that the False Dragon's war and the presence of Aes Sedai will bring destruction to the Two Rivers. He confirms his own sighting of the mysterious rider and shares in the group's anxiety as they face Nynaeve's wrath.

Chapter 4 - The Gleeman

Perrin listens to Thom Merrilin and confirms his travels to the Mire and Mountains of Mist. He agrees to join the watch patrols if Master Luhhan permits, and helps Rand plan to find more witnesses to the black rider.

Chapter 10 - Leavetaking

Perrin — aliases: blacksmith

Perrin hides his axe under his cloak until Rand questions him, then explains Master Luhhan gave it to him. He argues with Egwene about the reality of the Trollocs and follows Lan out of the village.

Chapter 11 - The Road to Taren Ferry

Perrin

Perrin rides with the group, joining in the desire for rest and pie. He rides closely with the others during the flight through the fog.

Chapter 12 - Across the Taren

Perrin

Perrin is exposed by Lan at the landing and presents his axe to the ferryman. He comments on the width of the Taren and later asks to rest before the group finds their hiding spot, where he listens to the explanation of channeling with a look of dread regarding the Red Ajah.

Chapter 13 - Choices

Perrin

Perrin travels with the group, learning axe fighting from Lan. He expresses disbelief at the sight of Baerlon and carries Mat’s bow while discussing the Whitecloaks with the gatekeeper Avin.

Chapter 14 - The Stag and Lion

Perrin

Perrin accompanies the group to the baths, noting the facilities are almost as good as the Winespring Inn back home, and nearly contributes to the dangerous conversation about Trollocs before Thom intervenes. He joins the private meal and listens to the reports gathered by Lan, remaining quiet and observant.

Chapter 15 - Strangers and Friends

Perrin stays in bed due to the nightmare, meets Rand and Mat to discuss the dream, and rushes out to tell them Nynaeve has arrived.

Chapter 16 - The Wisdom

Perrin

Perrin hesitantly leads the group to the meeting room and asks Nynaeve about Master Luhhan's reaction to his departure, before waiting outside while Moiraine speaks with the Wisdom.

Chapter 17 - Watchers and Hunters

Perrin

Perrin dances and rides with the group, inquiring of Mat whether he had danced with the Wisdom and Mistress Alys. He rides in the rear during the escape and worries about the safety of his friends.

Chapter 18 - The Caemlyn Road

Perrin

Perrin fights alongside the group, shouting the warcry and struggling against three Trollocs that have him pinned. He observes the ruined city and points out the collapsed nature of its walls, noting the lack of inhabitants.

Chapter 19 - Shadow’s Waiting

Perrin

Perrin accompanies the boys into the city, retrieves an axe from the treasure pile, helps restrain Mat from taking the gold, and confirms the group's flight as Mordeth vanishes and the shadowy watchers close in.

Chapter 20 - Dust on the Wind

Perrin

Perrin carefully navigates the ruins and meets Egwene at the gate before they are chased into the river. He swims to the far bank alone, shivering and terrified, unable to find Egwene among the Trollocs on the other side.

Chapter 22 - A Path Chosen

Perrin

Perrin wakes up under a pile of cedar branches, retrieves his axe, and cautiously surveys the Arinelle River before following horse tracks to find Egwene. He takes charge of their situation, proposing they travel inland to Caemlyn to wait for Moiraine, and initiates the departure by kicking out their fire despite Egwene's protests about his wet clothes.

Chapter 23 - Wolfbrother

Perrin shares the burden of leading Egwene and riding Bela, sets snares that fail, and successfully hunts a rabbit with his sling. He cautiously investigates Elyas's camp, accepts food, and eventually confesses their true story to Elyas after the wolves expose Egwene's lie, later choosing to continue his journey to Caemlyn despite Elyas's offer to join the pack.

Chapter 25 - The Traveling People

Perrin travels with Egwene and Elyas, relying on his instinctive connection to the wolves to know their position. He challenges the Tinker Raen's philosophy of non-violence, arguing that violence is sometimes necessary to protect the weak, and later comforts a weeping Egwene by confirming that Rand and Mat are alive.

Chapter 27 - Shelter From the Storm

Perrin frets over the slow pace of the Tuatha'an and argues with Egwene about staying versus fleeing. He experiences embarrassment during dances, has a terrifying dream of Ba'alzamon burning a wolf, and wakes to find Elyas urging immediate departure, finally accepting the need to leave while shunning the wolves' mental connection.

Chapter 29 - Eyes Without Pity

Perrin suffers from exhaustion and nightmares, tracking the ravens with Elyas. He senses the wolves' battle with the birds through a psychic link and feels a dark laughter within his own mind. He enters the stedding, drinks from the pool, and listens to Elyas's tale of Artur Hawkwing, struggling with his identity and fear.

Chapter 30 - Children of Shadow

Perrin / Perrin al'Vere

Perrin stands by the pool with Elyas, struggling with his hate for his axe and his connection to the wolves, before Elyas leads the group to hide in the stedding with Egwene and Bela. He hides under Artur Hawkwing's statue with Egwene, sensing the approaching Children of the Light. When Hopper attacks to save him, Perrin screams and attacks the riders with his axe, then wakes up bound in Bornhald's tent, listening to Bornhald's interrogation and Byar's threats, where Bornhald declares that a gibbet waits for Perrin in Amador.

Chapter 33 - The Dark Waits

Perrin

Perrin appears briefly in Rand's fever dream, accusing and pleading for help before vanishing.

Chapter 38 - Rescue

Perrin

Bound and marching behind a horse, Perrin endures the cruel treatment of Child Byar and fears for himself and Egwene. He is rescued by Lan, steals a Whitecloak cloak, and reunites with his friends. He later has his bruises healed by Nynaeve and learns from Lan that his connection to the wolves may be the work of the Dark One, though Lan clarifies the ability itself is ancient.
