Loial, a ninety-year-old Ogier, appears in the library and explains his journey from the stedding to see the world's groves and cities. He identifies Rand as 'ta'veren,' explaining that the Pattern bends around him, and requests to join the group's journey to Tar Valon to observe its groves.

Chapter 41 - Old Friends and New Threats

Plays stones with Master Gill and explains the concept of ta’veren to Rand. He insists on traveling with the group to Tar Valon to see its groves, then waits in the library as the innkeeper deals with the Whitecloaks.

Chapter 42 - Remembrance of Dreams

Loial sits on a couch with a cat on his stomach, explaining the nature of stedding and his travels. He reveals that a dying man told him of a threat to the Eye of the World, which Perrin and Egwene confirm is the Aiel story. He identifies Rand, Mat, and Perrin collectively as ta'veren and states that the stedding offers sanctuary to the Servants of the Light, but vehemently opposes Moiraine's plan to enter the Ways, stating they would all die or be swallowed by the Shadow.
