Chapter 3 - The Peddler
Egwene — aliases: Egwene al'Vere
Egwene stands behind Nynaeve, watching the youths with disapproval and a secret smile. She confronts Rand about his feelings and her future as a Wisdom, revealing her desire to leave the Two Rivers and her fear of losing her connection to him if she does.
Chapter 7 - Out of the Woods
Egwene / Egwene al'Vere
Egwene, exhausted and smudged with soot, meets Rand and leads him to the Wisdom. She hugs Rand after Nynaeve's refusal, then is summoned back by Nynaeve, leaving Rand alone with his fears.
Chapter 10 - Leavetaking
Egwene
Egwene slips into the stable and confronts Moiraine, refusing to be left behind. She deduces the group's plans by observing their behavior, and Moiraine allows her to join the party, riding Bela.
Chapter 11 - The Road to Taren Ferry
Egwene
Egwene rides Bela, initially exhausted but later exhilarated by the flight. She shouts for Rand to mount during the Draghkar attack and rides excitedly through the fog.
Chapter 12 - Across the Taren
Egwene
Egwene marches confidently through the fog and reacts with delight to Thom's dagger trick. She sits with Moiraine in the hollow, eagerly listening to the lesson on the One Power and successfully touching the Source through a blue stone, much to her own joy and Rand's quiet jealousy.
Chapter 13 - Choices
Egwene
Egwene unbraids her hair to resemble an Aes Sedai and argues with Rand about her choice. She spends nights with Moiraine, learning about the One Power, and arrives in Baerlon eager for her future at the White Tower.
Chapter 14 - The Stag and Lion
Egwene
Egwene stays in the rooms with Moiraine, combs her hair, and warms her hands by the fire before joining the private dining room. She stiffens and turns her back on Rand when he attempts to apologize, maintaining a sullen distance from him during the meal.
Chapter 16 - The Wisdom
Egwene / Egwene al'Vere
Egwene hides her unbraided hair under her cloak hood during the meeting, defends her decision to leave with Moiraine by mentioning she left a note, and is dismissed from the room to allow the women to speak privately.
Chapter 17 - Watchers and Hunters
Egwene
Egwene dances with Rand and others, then follows Moiraine in fleeing. She witnesses Moiraine's giant form at the gate and expresses fear.
Chapter 18 - The Caemlyn Road
Egwene / Egwene al'Vere
Egwene rides Bela and fights Trollocs with a belt knife. She questions Rand and Mat about the warcry they shouted, feeling she briefly understood it, and listens as Moiraine explains the lineage of the Red Eagle and the Rose of the Sun.
Chapter 19 - Shadow’s Waiting
Egwene
Egwene waits in the safehouse, warms herself by the fire, and listens to the group's terrifying story about Mordeth and the shadow of Shadar Logoth with visible fear.
Chapter 20 - Dust on the Wind
Egwene
Egwene rides with Perrin toward the gate and falls into the Arinelle River along with him. After a brief moment in the water, she is separated from Perrin, and her fate after that remains unknown as the Trollocs pursue them.
Chapter 22 - A Path Chosen
Egwene
Egwene waits by a fire with Bela, having successfully crossed the river, and reunites with Perrin. She provides him with dry bread and cheese, listens to his strategic proposal to head to Caemlyn, and agrees to follow his lead while expressing confidence that Moiraine will find them.
Chapter 23 - Wolfbrother
Egwene
Egwene insists on riding Bela and attempts to channel the One Power to make a fire, failing but refusing to stop trying. She accompanies Perrin to Elyas's camp, offers a detailed fabricated story from Saldaea which the wolves instantly detect as lies, and firmly asserts her determination to go to Caemlyn and Tar Valon.
Chapter 25 - The Traveling People

Egwene rides the mare Bela alongside the wolves. She dances with Aram at the Tinker camp, finding joy in the moment, but later breaks down in tears before Perrin, asking if her friends are safe, relieved to hear they are alive.
Chapter 27 - Shelter From the Storm
Egwene
Egwene embraces the Tinkers' festivities, learning dances and receiving gifts from Aram, while advising Perrin to enjoy themselves. She confers with Ila and stubbornly refuses Aram's attempt to persuade her to stay with the Tuatha'an, eventually preparing to leave with the group.
Chapter 29 - Eyes Without Pity

Egwene rides Bela through the flight from the ravens, using her sling to save Perrin. She enters the stedding, noting the strange peace and the monument of Artur Hawkwing's Eye, and questions Elyas about the history of the stone carving.
Chapter 30 - Children of Shadow

Egwene waits by the fire and hides under the statue with Perrin and Bela, growing anxious as the Children of the Light search the area. She comforts Perrin and promises to dance with him at Sunday if they return home. After being captured, she is bound in Bornhald's tent and answers Bornhald's questions, clarifying details about their meeting with a Warder to support Perrin's fabricated story, while reacting with fear to Byar's aggression.
Chapter 33 - The Dark Waits
Egwene / Egwene al'Vere
Egwene appears in Rand's fever dream, mournful and accusing him of leaving them to die.
Chapter 38 - Rescue
Egwene
Pinned and marched alongside Perrin, Egwene is woken by Byar and helped in the escape by Lan. She reunites with Nynaeve and her horse Bela, and later receives healing for her wrists while anxiously inquiring about the whereabouts of Rand and Mat.
Chapter 41 - Old Friends and New Threats
Egwene
Egwene reunites with Rand and asks about the red wrappings on his sword. She is present in Mat's room when Moiraine identifies the dagger's evil and asks if the condition is catching.
Chapter 42 - Remembrance of Dreams
Egwene
Egwene is present in the library, initially gawking at Loial before listening to the discussion. She confirms the Tinkers' account of the Aiel dying and the warning about the Eye of the World. She is seen crying softly at the end of the chapter, comforted by Nynaeve.
Chapter 43 - Decisions and Apparitions
Egwene
Egwene asks Loial how the Ways were made and refuses Moiraine's suggestion that she and Nynaeve should stay behind for safety. She insists on accompanying the men to the Eye of the World, stating that she cannot hide while they face danger.
Chapter 44 - The Dark Along the Ways
Egwene
Egwene goes to her horse Bela, follows the group into the cellar, and passes through the Waygate in shocked silence. She presses close to Rand in the darkness and looks as if she wishes she could rethink her decision to accompany the group into the Ways.
Chapter 45 - What Follows in Shadow
Egwene
Egwene clings to Rand's arm for several bridges and later shares a moment of fear with him as the wind approaches. She hears the screaming voices of Machin Shin and is terrified by the entity's whispers.
