Chapter 7 - Playing with Fire

Gaul — aliases: Stone Dogs’ leader

Gaul, the leader of the Stone Dogs guarding Rand, greets Egwene and Elayne in the anteroom. He informs them that Rand is in a foul mood and has already thrown a High Lord out of his room before allowing the women entry.

Chapter 8 - Hard Heads

Gaul

Gaul peeks into Rand's chambers to announce the arrival of the High Lords of Tear, quickly retreating after realizing he might be interrupting a private moment between Rand and Elayne.

Chapter 16 - Leavetakings

Gaul

Gaul approaches Perrin to inform him that Rand asked him to accompany the Dragon Reborn's follower to the Two Rivers to protect him from assassins. He accepts Perrin's invitation to join the journey, though he remains somber about the dangers of the Ways.

Chapter 18 - Into the Ways

Gaul

Gaul informs Perrin that Bain and Chiad have joined Faile and warns him about their intent to teach him a lesson. He accompanies Perrin to the Ways, steps through the gate calmly, and prepares a lantern in the darkness.

Chapter 27 - Within the Ways

Gaul

Gaul accompanies Perrin through the Ways, remaining unfazed by the darkness. He helps fight the Trollocs with his spear and the Myrddraal with his buckler and spear before the group escapes the Waygate. He is later seen eyeing Chiad while tending to his own minor injuries.

Chapter 28 - To the Tower of Ghenjei

Gaul camps with Perrin, keeping watch and discussing the nature of the land and Manetheren. He remains skeptical of the Fionn woman Perrin sees but listens to Perrin's report about the threat in the Two Rivers before going to sleep.

Chapter 29 - Homecoming

Gaul — aliases: Aiel

Gaul accompanies Perrin, warns him about Faile, presents a gold saltcellar to Mistress al’Vere, and speaks for the group at the inn.

Chapter 30 - Beyond the Oak

Gaul

Gaul declares his intention to stay with Perrin due to a blood debt and meets the Aes Sedai's Warders with the rest of the group, watching them warily.

Chapter 31 - Assurances

Gaul

Gaul enters the sickhouse with the group and exchanges guarded looks with the Aiel women. He is healed by Verin.

Chapter 32 - Questions to Be Asked

Gaul

Gaul rides with the group, scouts ahead from the thicket, and finds a place to hide when the group arrives at the farm to avoid drawing attention to the party.

Chapter 33 - A New Weave in the Pattern

Gaul — aliases: Stone Dog

Gaul joins the party from the thicket, helps silence the guards at the prisoner's tent, and ensures the guards remain bound while the group escapes.

Chapter 40 - Hunter of Trollocs

Gaul / Stone Dog

Gaul leads the scout mission to find the Trollocs, reports their numbers and location, and participates in the subsequent ambush, limping slightly after the battle.

Chapter 41 - Among the Tuatha’an

Gaul

Gaul sees the Tuatha'an wagons, states he will sleep elsewhere to avoid the Tinkers, and lopes away without another word. He is later mentioned as having recovered his spirits and playing games with the Maidens.

Chapter 42 - A Missing Leaf

Gaul

Gaul walks alongside Perrin’s horse, complaining about Chiad’s teasing and the Maidens’ antics, before storming off to join them in silence.

Chapter 43 - Care for the Living

Gaul stands off to one side near the stairs, watching Perrin, Verin, and the rest of the room while holding his spear.
