Chapter 31 - The Woman of Tanchico

Thom Merrilin recita una storia mentre è ubriaco, lamentandosi dei suoi passati fallimenti e della necessità di nascondersi da Elaida. Sembra essere in uno stato di torpore finché non si allontana brevemente dal tavolo, dopodiché torna completamente sobrio e pronto a viaggiare, accettando di accompagnare Mat a Caemlyn.
Chapter 32 - The First Ship

Thom Merrilin sale sulla Gabbia Grigia con Mat, osservando l'organizzazione della cabina da parte del capitano e in seguito aiutando Mat a respingere l'attacco dell'assassino notturno. Prende nota della strana fortuna e del foglio di carta, dichiarando la sua ignoranza riguardo al Gran Signore Samon, per poi accomodarsi per dormire al suo fianco.
Chapter 40 - A Hero in the Night

Thom accompanies Mat to Aringill, comments on the suffering of the refugees, and attempts to negotiate for lodging with innkeepers. He observes Aludra’s arrival, identifies her as an Illuminator, and advises Mat to flee the stable quickly after their encounter with her pursers.
Chapter 44 - Hunted

Thom accorda la sua arpa e avverte Mat dei pericoli dei fuochi d'artificio che sta esaminando. Uccide uno degli assassini con un coltello quando attaccano l'accampamento di Mat. Calza all'indietro il mantello della leader morta per recuperare il suo coltello e consiglia a Mat di sella i loro cavalli così da poter ripartire.
Chapter 45 - Caemlyn

Thom rides with Mat into Caemlyn, advises him to find food first, and later waits in the inn's library with Basel Gill playing a stones board game. He reacts with suspicion to Mat's fireworks and frustration at Mat's refusal to use the letter for safe passage, eventually urging Mat to consider the danger of his plan.
Chapter 47 - To Race the Shadow

Thom sits with Gill in the inn, listens to Mat's report of the plot, reveals that his romantic feelings for Morgase have faded over time, and agrees to leave for Tear to protect Egwene and the others.
Chapter 49 - A Storm in Tear
Thom — aliases: gleeman (giullare)
Thom plays stones with Mat, exposes Comar's weighted dice by revealing the hidden marked dice, and pulls Mat away from the scene before the Defenders arrive. He joins Mat in the random search of inns despite his worsening cough.
Chapter 52 - In Search of a Remedy
Thom
Thom suffers from a severe, wheezing cough and insists he does not need medicine before being forcibly treated by Mother Guenna. He protests vehemently when Mat leaves him behind to pursue his rescue mission, though he is restrained by Guenna's hand.
