Thom blots and conceals a forged note warning High Lord Tedosian before hiding his writing chest when Mat Cauthan enters. He listens to Mat's fears about the Dragon Reborn and the attacking cards, then distracts the boy with a game of stones and a lie about a wager with a Domani woman, resolving to stay and help Rand despite his desire to flee.

Chapter 17 - Deceptions

Thom Merrilin juggles balls to plant rumors among servants regarding the Trolloc barges and High Lord responsibility. He is visited by Moiraine Sedai, who heals his injured leg and coerces him into going to Tanchico with Elayne and Nynaeve by promising to reveal the names of the Red sisters who gentled his nephew Owyn.

Chapter 20 - Winds Rising

Thom boards the Wavedancer with Juilin Sandar, claiming he was sent by Moiraine to accompany Elayne and Nynaeve. He chats with Elayne about the reliability of history and the end of the Age, displaying a mysterious familiarity that puzzles Elayne before departing for the bow.

Chapter 46 - Veils

Thom arrives at the inn to deliver news that the Children of the Light have surrounded the Panarch's Palace to invest Lady Amathera. He also informs the women that Bayle Domon has arranged for fifty guards to protect them, attempting to act as their protector despite their protests.

Chapter 51 - Revelations in Tanchico

Thom Merrilin enters to share news about Panarch Amathera's movements and allegiances, reporting that he has heard nothing to indicate she is a Darkfriend. He returns multiple times with further leads, only to be ordered by Nynaeve to stand guard at the door for the night.

Chapter 52 - Need

Thom

Thom is kicked in the head by the mysterious stranger in the hallway but remains largely unharmed. He gives a thoughtful nod regarding the Seanchan revelation and is ordered by Nynaeve to fetch tea and medicinal herbs from the innkeeper.

Chapter 55 - Into the Deep

Thom

Thom waves the women out of the palace from a distance, limping with a bleeding gash, and later receives medical attention from Elayne while commenting on the destruction of the palace.
