Characters

• Couladin (flame-haired man) — Couladin confronts Rand from a granite outcrop, accusing him of murdering Muradin and entering Rhuidean armed. He throws spears at Rand, which are blocked, but is forced to stand down by Bair’s threat of outlawry. He later stalks back to his tents with hate in his eyes. Rand is warned by Rhuarc and Lan about Couladin's ambition.
• Bair (Wise One) — Bair runs down the slope to stop Couladin, threatening him with outlawry for breaking the peace. She examines Rand’s arm markings, confirms his identity as Car’a’carn, and treats Mat’s wounds with a painful ointment. She later reveals the hard truth of the prophecy to Rand, stating he is both the Aiel’s doom and salvation.
