Loial greets Perrin, revealing he is writing a book about the Dragon Reborn and showing the flowers given to him by the women of the Stone for saving children during the Trolloc attack. He is pressured by Faile into fulfilling an oath to take her anywhere she wishes, resulting in him reluctantly agreeing to bring her to the Two Rivers despite Perrin's anger.

Loial rides with Faile, urging Perrin to hurry. He leads the group to the site of a vanished Ogier grove where he senses a Waygate. He activates the gate by removing the trefoil leaf of Avendesora and mounts his horse to follow Perrin into the tunnel.

Loial accompanies the group to the sickhouse, pleases Verin with his knowledge of books, and confirms to the Aes Sedai that he has locked the Waygate to prevent pursuit.
